She is still a baby. You will have to be patient and give her time. She needs to finish her whole series of shots before she can go outside where other dogs go, not just get the one shot on Monday. Depending on when your state requires rabies, she won't get her last shot until about four months old. You have to wait two weeks after that for full immunity. Until then not only can she not walk in areas other dogs do, don't take her to any other places dogs go like pet stores, grooming salons, etc. When you take her to the vet, make sure you hold her or keep her in a carrier and don't let her walk on the floor. Little puppies are at a very high risk for getting Parvo. The virus can stay in the ground or surfaces like grooming tables for six months. You can also bring it in on tires and your shoes. The first shots a puppy gets may not provide any protection as often any immunity he got from his mother attacks and kills the vaccine. We had a sad story this summer on the news about a local family who lost both their Pom puppies to Parvo. They had two out of the three shots and the owners mistakenly thought they were protected. |
