Potty Training Helpers? Belly bands??? So, Rusty is 5 1/2 months old and is pretty good with potty training. He knows to go on the potty pad, but doesn't always do it. I was thinking about starting to use belly bands or something similar to protect our carpet. But, I don't really know much about them. How do they work? Will he freak out when i put it on him? Where is the best place to get them? Can some of you belly band users help me out with some info? |
Belly Bands??? Good question! I too would like to know more about the belly bands! I know someone out there has some good info and tips for us! :p |
I got a doggy diaper for Zoe and it seems to be working well so far. I've only had it a few days but she does fine. Does not freak out at all. Actually, she looks really cute in it. I got it from Sonja at www.pocomutt.com. She was awesome and shipped the stuff out so quickly and it was all so cute(I got a sweatshirt dress & pjs too)! I'm planning on getting a few more pairs but then there's so many other things I want as well! :) |
are the doggy diapers a pain to clean up? I mean......instead of training to go outside they poo and pee in the diaper forever (wow I know that makes me sound completely stupid..lol)? how is the clean up? i've never heard of a belly band..what is that?? |
As far as I know, belly bands are used to prevent males from marking in the house, especially when there are females in heat, such as at a breeder's house. I've really never heard of using them for potty training. |

My personal experience with belly bands and doggy diapers: We are working on pottytraining with Coby. He's going on 8 months old. Belly bands are just a band that goes around his belly area (not for pooping ;) ). They are NOT a replacement for potty training, but they can help save your sanity at times. When we were trying to expand Coby's area of freedom, one room at a time, we would put the belly band on him. It either a) helps deter the urge to pee with something "on" that area or b) if he does have an accident, my hubby doesn't lose his temper having to clean up, a ruined couch, etc. We would usually remove it every 40-45 minutes or so and take him to his pad or outside to potty. Or we would watch him like a hawk for signs that he needed to go. For us, belly bands are really for US when we would fail to dilligently potty train. As Coby has become more trustworthy, we've weaned him off the belly bands. The only downside that I found to belly bands was that Coby was afraid of the velcro sound when I would take it off. Also, we used to have a female from a puppy mill that had some behavioral issues and had a horrible submissive peeing problem - ending up with pee splattering everywhere as she jumped around. The problem wasn't solvable (for us, anyway), so we just put girlie diapers on her to keep us from scolding her for something that she couldn't control. You can get either from makers right here on YT, just search in the Products Forum. Good Luck!! |
Here's a link to another current belly band thread.... http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=96560 |
They work well but You have to remove them often or they will rub off your pets hair and you will have short hair from them around the belli area. |
Good luck with using the Belly Bands. I think they're mostly using to stop the dog from marking their territory, but I'm not sure. |
