Penny' so out of control She is taking the Alpha thing to the extreme and I don't know how to stop her. She barks at everyone in my house, and tries to bite all the other dogs. She's just insanely jealous. I'm afraid I'm going to have to rehome her if she doesn't stop, and I really don't want to do that, because I really love her. I'm at my wits end. I've used the squirter bottle, penny jar, and everything I can think of. She's also food aggressive, so I have to feed her all alone. Can someone please help me. |
Is she spayed? Could it be her coming into heat? |
Im sorry you are having these issues with her. I don't have any advise I just wanted to wish you luck! |
She suppose to be spayed in October. Do you think that would help. |
How about getting a good behaivourist to come to your home to try to help her? |
I am told neutering does help the males so hopefully spaying her will help too. Some are just so strong willed and fight to the end to be alpha. Food aggression you can work on. Make her sit before placing her food down. Only when the food is down release her. Do this each and everytime she is feed. Also make her sit before giving her a treat. Be in controll as much as you can. You have to be the boss. |
There was an excellent program on Animal Planet (Victoria Stilwell from It's Me Or the Dog) and addressed the same issue. She is so straight forward and realized it was me that caused so much of Sophie's barking, nipping and possessive attitude. The program was on yesterday, so check their website. |

Some of the things that she did was 1. Take away bed privilages. She must sleep on the floor, in her crate or anywhere except in the bed with you. The alpha dog gets the best sleeping place. I know alot here won't agree but it does make a difference. 2. Don't leave food down all the time. The leader always controls the food and always eats first. So, a feeding schedual and always act as though you are eating some of it before you give it to her. 3. If you are holding her and she growels or tries to bite at someone dog or people say no immediately and then immeditely put her down on the floor. Do this every time so she gets the idea that that behavior gets her negaitve results. I'm sure i have missed something, so try to watch it this week. I know it will help. Kim |
Meant to say I have tried many of these things with out Teddy for those reasons and for marking in the house and he is doing beautifully. I have been so so proud of him lately. :D Kim |
