Jumping on people: I had a houseful of people over yesterday and my 4yr old yorkie [Keisha]. thought they all came to see her, she was so bad and has never acted like this before. She jumped on everyone, from one to the other on the couch, chair, wherever they were, and she seemed to target the one's who didn't want her near them. She found every ball she had and barked continuously until someone threw it. My motherinlaw did bring her dog a schitzu, I don't know if this had something to do with it or not, she was waco, anyone have any suggestions, she has always been good before, it really took me off guard. |
Is that the first time you've had a whole houseful? It might have just been a little too much stimulation for Keisha. Does she usually get along with your MIL's dog? Sounds like she was just like a pre-schooler who just has too many people around - HYPER. Is she pretty well disciplined otherwise? And isn't it funny.... they either sense those that aren't dog people and ignore them OR try to convert them to dog people like smothering them with dog loving/playing!! :D |
Mine always go for the one's that don't like them. It's like they can sense it, and want to try to be friends. I always have my kids friends coming in and out, so they're use to that part. I swear they think I have a revolving door. |
She probably thought it was a party for her, and it was her form of entertaining them :rollingey Maybe next time you should consider putting her in a crate or confining her in a room. |
skoshi barks the whole time!! lol I would say next time just put your yorkie in a different room with some toys. |
Allowing her to normally jump on the couch or any other furniture w/out being invited to do so can definitely cause this. By allowing them to do so, they start to dominate the room. This is something I have a hard time with myself with Lexi. She LOVES to be on people's lap, just for attention. (shes not completely the affecionate type) As soon as she gets a lil pet/rub, on to the next person! I have worked really hard on her only being allowed on the couch when I invite her ONLY. If she jumps up on her own, I just say DOWN! Shes done MUCH better! She will usually just look at me when she wants to jump up, or give me a paw. I have set up nice little spots in the livingroom floor where my dogs can relax and play and feel like it belongs to "them" Just an idea! :p |
