what do you say when you take them out to potty?? I have 2 3 month old pups. I take them out every hour.. what am I supposed to be saying to them on the way out the door? Do I say lets potty outside? and when they go potty, do I say good potty outside? Stewie does not like treats. he will take cheese for sure but just turns his head up at treats.. and when I try to praise him he won't come to me and looks at me like I've lost my mind..he is the one I am having the hardest time with. any advice would be great. |
I just say "lets go potty" in a real excited voice. Then I tell him "good boy go potty" in a super excited voice after he is done. I know I prob sound like an idiot if anybody hears me :) |
all of mine know the tern: go potty... I can say it at anytime and they know it means to go to the doggie door... I dont think it matters what term you use as long as you use the same one everyytime... I praise them everytime, just with a "good girl-potty outside"... they also know that saying OUTSIDE means they go for a walk and run for the leash bag... it is really cute, but really consistency is the key, always use the same word for the same thing... they also know "time to go to bed" and many others..... good luck! P.S. My tootie is 2 years old and REFUSES to poopie outside.... he will come inside from playing out, to go "in his corner" on a pee pad... it is terrible but kinda funny... d |
When we go outside, we say "outside", and then out there when I put Chloe on the grass I say "go pee pee". Then after she pees, I say "go poop?" And I make her try a few times in the morning and evening, until we get poop. |
I just say who wants to go out, and when their going I tell them good potty. |
I just say 'lets go potty' and then praise them when they go. |
I tell them to "Go potty". |
We are using the pads but when I take them to it...I say lets "go potty"...Then put them on the pad. When they are doing their business- I act like an idiot telling them good potty....and give a treat... |
Ok, even though I will be totally embarrassed I will tell you what I say. I tell them to go "poopsie" and "tinklewinkle". The Yorkie kids use indoor potty pads most of the time, but our Boxer will poo and pee on command. Sometimes I just tell her to drop and squat :) |
We started early on to say "let's go potty", and I will bet our neighbors think we are nuts because, even though she is six, I still say it. She seems to not get as distracted if I keep her focused by saying it. I also tell her "let's go poop", and she does (I know when she usually needs to-once in the morning and once in the late afternoon). Funny, I can't really say that she is that well trained though. We do have our times when we find a puttle or a pile in the house.:D |
Our trainer said to use whatever word/phrase you feel comfortable saying as long as you stay consistent. We use the Poochie Bells and always use the same phrase (outside potty, ring the bell) but now that she has the bells down to a science we just say outside potty. Once outside - I use, "Izzy go pee-pee and then Izzy - go poopie - also the phrase "hurry up" so she doesn't dawdle - well - she still does but not as much when I tell her that.:D Cause that girl is always on squirrel/mouse patrol!! |
We tell Conner to "get busy." He also has potty bells, and I ask him if he has to "get busy", but sometimes gets distracted outside when I have to go to work so I just tell him to "get busy", and he knows what I mean. |
