Cat vs Brody We're having trouble with one of our cats and Brody. We have had Lil'man and Chloe for about 5 years. Lil'man is our kick back and I'm not gonna move unless there is food envolved guy. Chloe is our outgoing girl. Brody use to try and get Lil'man to play with him when he first got here. They'd not curl up together for naps, but at least could share the same cushion of the couch. Now he tucks tail and runs when either cat comes in the room or he spots them out of the corner of his eye. I think it has to do with Chloe. Chloe is our hunter. Her latest victim seems to be Brody. She'll sit on the arm of the couch and wait for him to pass under her. She'll pounce or swipe at him. Or she'll hide around a corner and wait for him to go by. She'll actually follow him around giving him the eye and block him from whatever path he's taking. Then all of a sudden go after him. It's almost like she purposely stalks him because she knows it intimidates him. Brody is scared to death of her. Does anyone have any experiece dealing something like this? Brody is turning into a nervous wreck. |
You need to set boundaries for the cat. Get a spray bottle and fill with water - anytime (It has to be EVERYTIME) she begins this stalking/intimidation behavior spray her directly in the face. What this means is that they cannot be alone together for awhile. Not until she modifies her behavior consistantly. It also means YOU have to be very onguard and aware of what's going on with them at all times throughout the day. Really, really pay attention. She will soon learn harrassing Brody=NO FUN! I have tried the spray bottle. She runs like heck from it. I guess I'm not being consistant enough. I'll go out and get a few more to put around the house. Thanks! :) |
Get the cat's scent on Brody With cats, they leave their scent on people and stuff to mark it as "theirs". I would rub the cat down with a towel (especially the face area where most of the phermones is, and close to the base of the tail) and then rub the towel on Brody so he can smell "safe" to your kitty. Hopefully, this will mark Brody as something kitty doesn't need to feel threatened by, or at least not as prey. If that doesn't work, I would try the Feliway plugin which is a synthetic feline pheremones. The plugin looks like an air freshener plugin. This will release a scent to calm your cat down. I used the Feliway when I brought home my second kitty and rubbed both of them with each other's scent. They adjusted to each other in less than 2 days and are the best of friends. Now, with my puppy Bitsy, both cats look at her as something to be tolerated. They basically ignore her until she starts chasing them, then they just hiss and jump onto whatever is closest to get out of the way. Hope that helps, and good luck! |
You definetly need to keep spray bottles in different rooms, so you can spray when the action occurs. |
