Outside Potty Training..... We are moving from an apartment to a house and I want to get Bella trained to go outside so we can hopefully get rid of the pee pads. She is 9 months and has only been pee pad trained. But she will go outside if we are out there playing if she needs to go. I was thinking that since we are moving it might be a good way to start her over with just working on her going outside. What does everyone else think? How do I go about this the best way? Do I crate train her or what does everyone recommend? Thanks! |
I recently did exactly this with my yorkies. I removed the pee pads and took them out every 30 minutes, when they went I said good girl/boy and gave them a treat. Within 2 weeks of doing this they were asking to go out :) |
Hi! I have a Bella also. She is only 16 weeks old and we are trying to learn pee pads now. LOL She gets it about half the time. I had a fence installed this week so that she can go out now. (Her vet asked that she not go out til she got her last vac.) So, now we can go out to potty! Yea! Anyway, every book I have read on potty training says that once they are pad trained, to train them to go outside you need to slowly move the location of their pad. Gradually move it closer and closer to the door they will be going out of. Then eventually you will put a pad where you want them to go potty outdoors. That's what I am going to try with my Bella. Don't know how that will work with your moving but I hope it helps. |
outdoor potty training Hi everyone. I am new here and I was checking through the forum and ran across this. I just got my baby Romeo last Wed. and when I bought him I was told that he was newspaper trained. Well he wasn't. I was waking to pee and poo on the floor. So I went to Petco and bought potty training aid. It is a spray that you are suppose to stray in the area that you want you dog to go in. Any way my baby in 11 weeks and he goes outside. The only time he goes in the house is over night. The poor thing can't hold it all night. Anyway every 2 hours I take him out. At first I stray in one area and then once everyday. That stuff works great. |
Thanks for the info everyone. I also used a housebreaking aid for Bella when she was little to get her to use her pee pads and it worked great for that, so maybe it will work outside too, I never thought of that. Thanks |
I would like everyone suggested take him out every couple of hours, and give lots of praise and a treat when he goes. |
In May, we adopted 2 older dogs. Corabel, who is 4 years old and Rupert, who is 1. They had both been 'pee-pad' trained by the breeder but we wanted them to go outside. It took a lot of perseverance but we are almost there! No accidents in the house at all this week! So, it can be done -- just keep with it and try not to get depressed when they don't seem to get it! |
