Leg lifting help Ok, I know he's a boy and I know he's not fixed so I know he will mark. This I understand, not a problem. My problem is that I can't seem to make any kind of belly band work. I have tried making all kinds and he seems to pee even more when they are on. I was told if they were to tight it could stimulate him and make him pee so I made ver soft loose ones. They wouldn't keep him covered so I added elastic. They are soft, made out of t-shirt material and loose and cover well but still he wets them so much that I just took one off of him that had been on for less than an hour and it was so wet it was wet all the way around. So now the problem of he smells of pee all the time. I wondered if I bought one of those things that is supposed to attract them to pee on it and put it on a pad if he would use it instead of my furniture or might he still pee on it and everything else? Any thoughts or suggestions would be helpful. We are getting ready to take him with us for the long weekend to visit family so I will need to keep him in these and at the rate he goes I will need to take about 60 of them just to get through the 4 days we'll be gone. Anyone know of some great revelutionary belly band that doesn't look rediculas and doesn't stimulate them to pee! LOL |
belly bands I use belly bands on my daughters un-neutered male evey day at my house as he lifts his leg constantly. I use a regular velco band with a whole sanitary pad (super) and put it on snuggly. It gets changed every 2-3 hours and is very wet by then. Works great. We also had him cut in a puppy cut and not much problem with urine smell. |
I think getting his hair cut short will definetly help eliminate the pee smell. Are you going to have him neutered. I can tell you from experience Piper is neutered and still lifts his leg. Sorry for the not so good news. |
Hmmmm, guess this topic is just not one anyone really wants to talk about.:( Thanks Jeanietoo and Yorkiekids for your thoughts. |

I use panties on my girls since they are prone to marking their territory too....just little dribbles.... |
Those sound interesting. Do you know where I can go to see a picture of them? Thanx! |
I don't know how old he is but usually if you have them neutered between 6- 10 months then you won't have a marking problem. |

Do you sell them? Would you sell me one? |
I had Squeaky neutered at 6 months....prior to that, he would mark everything he'd come in contact with - table legs, sofa, bed.... After he was fixed, the only time he'd mark territory was when he'd go to Grandma's. She has a Shih Tzu(female-spayed). After correcting Squeaky a few times, he stopped. When he goes outside, sometimes he lifts his leg to "mark" and sometimes he just squats down (like a little girl) |
Question-maybe a dumb one but is their a difference between pee and marking? The way it's referenced sometimes makes me think that dogs do both, can you help me out? |
Peeing is when they urinate because they have to go. Marking is where they urinate an extra reserve of urine they have to leave their scent on something |

Its probably marking. How old is he and is he neutered? You could get belly bands to put on him. Alot of the yorkietalk sellers make them. My boy marks when I go to Petsmart or some place like that where there are other dogs and I put a bellyband on him before we go now |
