Biting
 

Hi Everyone,

I have a 2 yr old yorkie he's going to be 3 in Nov. We are having a problem with him and I was wondering if anyone else has the same problem. He sleeps with us at the foot of the bed, he's been really good up until about 6 months ago, but now he bites us when ever we move its gotten to the point we cant even lay straight without him attacking us, it looks like he is sleeping when he does this. Some of his bites draw blood so this is worrying me. We got him a little bed he refuses to sleep in it so we tried creating him, that didn't work he cry's all night we cant sleep. I don't know that to do anymore he has taken over our bed. PLEASE HELP

I would say stop letting him sleep in your bed. It will be an adjustment, I know, but if he is constantly disturbing your sleep then you need to find another alternative.

Spike sleeps in my bedroom with me but he has his own bed. It took him a while to get used to it, but now he's great - he jumps in his bed as soon as the lights are out!

I'm wondering could one of you maybe rolled on him or kicked him in your sleep and that is why he has started doing this. Not that knowing why is really going to help though. I would have to agree with Danielle and take him out of the bed. Our bed is too high for Reagan to jump on so if we don't pick her up she can't get up so we don't have a problem keeping her out of the bed if needed. If he isn't used to being crated then I would start putting him in it at various other times just so he gets used to it, then introduce it at night. And if he is already used to it just put him in and if needed move him to another room for a couple nights until he can keep quiet. After he really gets used to sleeping in his crate you could try keeping the door open at night.

Or you could just put him on the floor and each time he tries to jump up on the bed block him and tell him no bed and maybe even place him in a bed of his own. The only problem with this would be once you guys are asleep he could sneak his way up there, if you do wake up and he is up there put him on the floor and tell him no bed. But over time of you telling him no and not letting him on the bed he will evenutally learn he can't sleep up there. You have to stay consistant with this if this is the way you go, don't ever cave. Also I wouldn't let him up there at all, even during the day at least until he learns he's not allowed to sleep up there, if not forever. I might start with this and if there is no way he is getting it then move to the crate.
