Newbie Question?! Hello, in about a month I am going to be a mother to a 6 week old baby boy yorkie. My husband and I are a little concerned about starting the training process. I was wondering if anyone had any good advice for new owners or any suggestions on where to look for training advice, ie books, online, etc. We would appreciate any and all advice. Thanks! |
You can start right here on YT. Do some searches on some of the topics that you'd like to read about and you'll get a ton of good and different opinions and ideas. You can start training (potty and commands) as soon as you get home! Sit/Down/Stay are all things that the tiniest smart yorkie can learn. Everyone here has their own way of training to the same goal. So you will find something that works for you. Then by the time you get to puppy classes, he'll be the teacher's pet!! Congratulations! |
Yes there's all kinds of training material on here. Some people have listed books, and even free videos. Go to the training section, or do a search. Good luck. |
Hi and welcome to YT...we're a big fan of clicker training and it's very easy to do and good interaction for you and your furkid....go to: www.clickertraining.com and get tons of info....good luck! |
I know this is an old thread...however why would you bring home a 6 week old puppy? Way, way, way too young!! It should still be with it's mother and litter. I once *had* to adopt a 6 week old purebred golden retreiver (Breeder's husband had a fatal car accident) and let me tell you although he generally had a good temperment, he definitely wasn't taught bite inhibition. Just my two cents...:p |
