holding it over night Our puppy is 12 weeks old. Should he be able to hold it in over night. He has always eliminated in his crate and we are trying to get him to use wee wee pads during the day. We crate him over night. When will he be able to hold it in? Should we put a wee wee pad in his crate over night or will that just confuse him? Right now we have shredded paper in his crate. This is what the breeder did for him too. He is used to just going on the paper. |
Cosmo holds it all night he did when he was 12 weeks too. But he never went in his crate. Every once in a while he whines and I let him out to go potty. But now he is 15 weeks and he sleeps in my bed with no problem. i know I am a push over he gets everything. lol. |
Bailey is 9 weeks old and i put him in the bathroom in his crate with a wee wee pad in front of it. unfortunatly he is not at all potty trained and when i wake up in the morning i have a very stinky bathroom and little presents all over the floor for me. i would love for him to sleep in bed with me but i fear he is still too small and i dont want to squish him nor do i want him to fall off my bed and hurt himself. when he wakes up in the middle of the night, it is not to do his business, he just wants to play. how do i stop the playfulness? he is just so cute. when i put him away to go back to sleep he cries so loud that my neighbors complain. |
all puppies are different on bladder control some are able to control that early and some are not my little guy now is 8 wks and will hold it from 9pm to 6 am but I am very lucky he is doing exceptionally well they all do not do that well .I have a female that was 8 mths before she would hold it all night ,needless to say she did not join the family in bed until then, a consistant schedule on potty training is well paid off, all puppies have accidents ,when you think they are all potty trained, oops not just yet but all will come if you are consistant, imo. I have had better and faster results in my males. I have never used a wee pad newspapers work fine for me and are cheaper, how big is his crate? My little guy is in a playpen with food , water his blankets and toys on 1 side then newspaper on the other side in case he needs it. |
In the beginning I think you have to wake up half way through the night to let them out. You will be exhausted but after 2-3 weeks they are able to sleep through the night and hold it. |
Bella doesn't sleep in a crate she sleeps in a real baby play pen, but she had a wee wee pad at one end of her playpen and used it once in a while the first week or two we had her (got her at 9 weeks). After that she holds it during the night but we kept the wee wee pad in there just in case. Don't give him water before he goes to bed!! Bella doesn't usually eat or drink after 8pm |
just one comment about the baby play pen. i tried that the 2nd week i had Bailey and some how he managed to climb out! i put him in there while i was getting ready for work and in walks Bailey into the bathroom. it made me nervous for fear of him falling and hurting himself so i took it back. i have the excercise pen now and there is no way he can escape that. |
