Newbie with a problem. Hi I am new to this forum. I have a Yorkie that is 9 months old. He is almost potty trained. I say this because he goes poop outside and pees out there BUT he leaves trails of pee in the house even if he just went outside he still comes in and leaves a trail of pee. This is my first Yorkie and first small dog. My last dog was a mastiff. Is this normal and if so how do I break him? He knows is is wrong because after he does it he hides. |
Does it dribble out of him or is he hiking his leg on stuff? |
Most of the time he walks and it runs but the other day he did hike his leg on my daughter. He really has not gotten the whole hiking the leg this yet. He squats still but when he leaves the trail he is just walking BUT walking slow cuz he knows he is peeing. |
Have you talked to your vet? Sounds like he has some inconsistancy problems which is not his fault...could be a "lazy bladder". Has he been neutered? |
No he has not been neutered not because I am going to breed him but because I do not like to neuter my dogs unless it it is necessary. But I will ask the vet when i take him to the groomers this Friday and ask if they think it is something like a lazy bl;adder. I never think to ask them because it really did not dawn on me that it could be a bladder problem. Thanks, |
Welcome, and I would check with your vet. Why don't you like neutering a dog if you're not going to breed him. Just curious. |
My mother in law has small dogs and every time she neutered one of them they started being mean. Plus my grandma has always had small dogs and when she would neuter them they got fat. So basically just because of prior experiences I am not saying not to do it people should consider it if they are outside dogs but since mine are both inside and never go out without me they really do not need it. |

Maybe he isn't finished going when he comes in the house? Try waiting a few moments after he's gone, and then bring him in. I am training Bear to go outside now, and I've noticed sometimes he squats in two or three different places... if I don't let him finish (ie, I am in a hurry for work, see him squat, and rush him in right after), then he comes inside peeing the whole way... he also does this on his pee pad. Sometimes if he is excited to get a treat or eat breakfast, he will walk off it, still peeing!!! :eek: He just hadn't finished yet. -O |
I am sure I am not the only one here but my Yorkie did NOT get grumpy nor did he get big (still only 5 pounds:D ) I DO want to tell you that the FATHER of my Scruffy (who obviously isn't neutered) STILL lifts his leg on everything in their house and marks everywhere they go. You may certainly continue to have this problem if he doesn't get neutered. It honestly didn't effect Scruffy other than he lifts his leg a LOT LESS (only trees, bushes, nearest pole) and NEVER lifts his leg INSIDE, and there is a LOT less humping going on:D He's still as loveable as before getting neutered, if not MORE LOVEABLE!!!;) |
Is he neutered? This could be because hes not neutered. |
I certainly respect your decision to neuter or not, I just wanted to chime in and let you know that in my experience neutered dogs are less aggressive than intact dogs. My boys are both neutered and they are not the least bit mean. I agree that maybe it's a bladder issue. Is the hair on his (throat clearing sound) penis, long? Sometimes if the hair on Otis's get long, he will have "residual drips" (for lack of a better term)!!! Good luck! Oh, and my boys aren't fat either! |
I am not saying that all neutered dogs get fat. I just never had a problem with the none neutered dogs. He isn't aggressive or anything like that he is a chicken dog. The pee is dribbling out of him he does not hike his leg on anything unless its my flower bed outside. The hair on his penis is cut every week when i take him to the groomers. I know that this is a bladder thing but did not know what it could be about the bladder that causes him to do this. Turns out he has a lazy bladder. (Oh and he has not learned to hump yet. I have another dog and he has never humped him or anything else around here. Knock on wood.) |
And I will add if everyone does agree that the dribble trails he leaves will most likely stop if I get him neutered then I will gladly do so as I am tired of cleaning up 7 ft trails in my house. |
