Training Treats? my yorkie isn't a big fan of dog treats, well except for pup-peroni's lol. what else do you guys feed your puppy when you're trying to train them? like cheese or what? |
The girls just finished puppy K....I was giving them boiled chicken breast for training treats. The pet store where I buy food also sells homemade treats. They LOVE the cheddar bear and peanut butter treats. I had been using these for over a month...however...Sadie as put on weight...I would say at least a pound...I'm not a freak on wanting small furbabies but, Sadie has been 6 lbs for 2yrs now (she will be 4 in Dec) so I KNOW her weight gain is from all these delicious treats I have been given them. I have resorted to plain cherrios. they love them! |
For trick/obedience training....Yorkie Yummies! (Chattiesmom) For peepad/potty training...yogurt drops! (except for three in the morning...then Yorkie Yummies...no sugar! lol) |
I give regular dog treats as little as posible and lean more towards either carrot pieces or frozen green beans. They love 'em and the veggies have alot less calories.:) |
For training/clicker training: Yorkie Yummies or cut up tiny, tiny pieces of the Natural Balance logs (they have 3 flavors and Izzy love them all). :D For Pee pad/potty training - Judy what a great idea on yogurt drops (from Cafe Max???) I'm trying everything to get Izzy to go outside and so far Yorkie Yummies are good but I need that extra special treat that will get her to go outside ALL the time..hahaha. |

romeo is a puperoni maniac. I had to get him off them. nutro lamb and rice sticks are a great alternative. http://www.nutroproducts.com/ncbis-tlr.shtml |
I was just wondering about good trainging treats myself after I saw a story on the Today Show this morning. (posted a thread about it in the general forum) The dogs love carrots & pea pods - I have never tried frozen peas - I will have to try that maybe alternating with some of the training treats mentioned above. |
treats I'm switching my babies off of dog treats(I used natural choice treats which they loved) to gerber treats for toddlers. I bought the sweet potato, the apple cinnomon, and the strawberry/apple. They are bite sized treats for toddlers but they are health and only 1.92 a jar at Meijer:) |

I can't get either of my dogs to eat raw carrots, only cooked ones:( |
haha einstein actually loves carrots! (only if i peel them tho...) the frozen carrots arent working for him :( |
Cheerios work well. |
Molly LOVES cheerios and carrots. DH swears her eyes glaze over when she gets a carrot. The cheerios were an easy treat for potty training and tricks, plus we get the generic brand and they are cheap! Carla |
