Over two and still soiling the carpet I am sure if I read through threads, I can find someone that is having the same problem. If you have been successful in correcting this problem, please enlighten me. Here is the deal. Lily is over two years now. I am pretty sure that she doesn't tinkle in the house 99% of the time. However, every night she gets up from bed and goes in the living room to tinkle unless I happen to be awake and usher her out side right quick. She has never been caged and I can't see that ever happening. I did try potty pads when she was a baby and she never used them. This is driving me nuts. She knows better so I have no clue why she continues to do this. Anyone have any thoughts? |
How about shutting the door or using a baby gate to keep her from going into the living room? |
I know the feeling my mom's 7 year old yorkie, since we moved to the new house, soils the carpet in her family room everyday when she too knows better. Have you been making sure to remove the stain and the odor? I've heard that Simple Solution and Nature's Miracle are the best to get rid of that urine odor. Which needs to be removed or your dog will continue to urinate there. |
I close my door, so they can't get out. |

Aww well I hope everything works out and you can fix her of this little problem :) |
do you know about what time of the night you have been "lucky" enough to catch her? if it is her habit/pattern, then you might want to start waking up around that time. i do agree that if she can't get out, she can't pee there, but she may start going in your room. what time do you let her have her last drink? |
I might have an idea for you. Ellie goes in the house quite a bit so I am no expert. She knows where she is supposed to go though. She would never use pee pads as a baby so I gave up on that (even with that special spray). Well, she goes in my room when she is shut in there by herself. One day I left a pee pad down after soaking some of her pee up with it. You could try that and then clean the rest of the floor really well. Your dog might get the idea that it is ok to go on pads. Of course, Ellie sometimes goes half on and half off the pads when they are down which is rarely but it might be worth a try. |
Boy do I know that problem but I keep telling myself 'yorkies are hard to potty train and it's part of yorkie ownership, I love my girl regardless' But I'm going to keep trying, being consistent with taking her out every 2 hours while I'm home, teaching her potty bells, learning her body language when she needs to go (she pesters us and looks at us while standing in front of the door. Plus, we use doggie diapers on her when we really can't keep a close watch, that has helped a lot. |
You need to lock her in somewhere so she doesn't do that. |
Close the bedroom door. Sammy did the same thing last night and she is otherwise trained. It was the one night in months I did not close the door. She won't do it in the bedroom, she will scratch at the door. We have bells up which Loki will ring if he needs to go out in the middle of the night. Then he will come up here and lick my face to wake me up. I  Loki. :D Sammy is learning though, every week is a small improvement. |
