"Only baby" Hi, I have another question. Baby Faith is my only yorkie. Now she is with the whole litter and she is used to playing with her brothers and sisters. When I bring her home, will she be upset because she misses the others? Of course I will spend lots of time with her and give her lots of love, but if I go out to the store or something, will she be exceptionally lonely? I am so worried about her. I know it will take her some time to adjust, any advice to help her feel at home asap? Christine :animal-sm |
Don't let these little fellows fool you. They are tough little things. It will be a change for her but she is young and will adjust. And without her syblings chances are she will bond with you quicker. |
One thing that we did before we brought Maggie home, is to take one of her blankets over to the breeder, one week before we picked Maggie up. Mag's whole family slept on that blanket. We put the blanket in Maggie's bed. She cried a couple of times, but other than that, she adjusted very quickly. Magwad is our only furbaby too. I am retired, so she is my constant companion. |
thanks! Hi again, phew, I feel relieved now. I'm glad to hear that they adjust well. I hope that she does bond with me quickly! That was a good idea to bring a blanket to the breeder. I bet that really gives the yorkie a sense of security. I can tell you are good moms to your yorkie babies, they are lucky! Anyway, I guess being the "only child" isnt a bad thing, we can spoil them like crazy lol. Christine :aimeeyork |

Christine :aimeeyork [/QUOTE Christine, I guess some people look at having more than one as "Double Trouble", or "Twice As Much Fun". I wouldn't mind having two, but just about all my time is spent with just Maggie. Training her has been very easy. I guess it's because I'm her playmate, care giver, nap partner, cook, school teacher, etc. In other words, she only has me to look up to. I have no competition with any other playmate. Therefore, having an only child can also be looked as being positive too. |
I am an only child and I think its great! :) If you are going to crate her ( which is the way to go) you can put an alarm clock that you wind up in the crate. This simulates a heartbeat. Also put a heating pad in there. Both of these are big helps that first night. |
p.s. Congrat on the new yorkie. Try not to let her run all over you( at least not too much). :) |
thanks! Hi!!! Thank you for all the congratulations! I went to visit my Faith today, sooo hard to leave her! But I pick her up soon! The crate training with the alarm clock and all sounds good! Oh, and lol I'm an only child too! Christine |
New Baby When I picked up my "baby" the breeder also gave me a birthday bag, in it were chew things- many different kinds, lots of small play toys, two stuff animals one large bear and one small elephant, a dirty baby blanket (was in the pen with mother and littermates) her shots records and a birth announcement with baby picture. She told me to let her sleep with the bear and the blanket for the first few nights and then wash the blanket and that will be here blanket. Well Macy never cried at night for her birth mom- it was great she slept from 10 until 5 am on her first night home. She is 13 weeks old and still doesn't sleep past 5. Which is way too early for me, so I am hoping she grows out of that earlier riser stage. Good luck and your wait will be worth it- just get your sleep now! :) |
Your little Yorkie is going to sleep most of the time when you first get her. And, when you do leave - don't advertise it... chances are she won't even know you're gone, if she doesn't see you go, and will just take a nap. I think the hardest thing for little puppies when they first leave their mother and litter mates - is sleeping alone. Often, they are so lonesome they just cry all night. That's why so many of us let them sleep with us. I have slept with mine since the first night I brought him home... (except now that he's older, he occasionally sleeps someplace else - what a big boy!) Anyway, he never cried. He just snuggled up and slept his little heart away. Good luck with your little pup. He'll be okay if you leave for a while occasionally. And, I think it is best to do this from the start for short periods of time rather than waiting until the pup is older. Carol Jean |
