Help! I need some new direction. Prada is my just about 9 months and less than 3 lbs. I'm trying to train her to go to the door so I can take her out to go to the bathroom. (on a leash) I'm having a hard time. She goes outside for the most part but when I bring her in she usually goes to the bathroom again in the house. I've tried keeping her longer outside but it never works. I have two older yorkies who are trained to go outside. They are bigger (11-12 lbs) so I feel confident on letting them outside alone. I was using the training pads but my middle yorkie starting peeing on them :eyebrow2: which added more frustration. :p I know it will work out.. but I'm frustrated. Does anyone have any new tips or advice? Thanks so much. :) |
When mine won't go outside within 5-10 minutes, I bring them back immediately to their crate for about 20 minutes, and try again. I keep repeating until they do their business outside, and they will.. it just takes lots of patience and persistance. Also, when you are outside don't talk or play with her. Just stand there quietly and wait until they do their pee/poop. Say "good potty" or your phrase you use in a happy voice and treat. :) GL |
I would take her outside by herself. Maybe she's getting distracted by the others. |
Just An Idea! My baby Max used to do the same thing,I started using a belly band and it works great!He dont go in the pad (unless i cant take him out all day)he'll hold it as long as he can.But i keep it on whenever he's in the house.I think its the best thing that ever happened to my carpet:D |
You might try putting her in a puppy diaper..it will make her mad..but she will either hold it until you take her out or she will use it! I had one that was hard to train and I did this for awhile and she decided she liked going to the door better! They are all different..it just takes more time with each yorkie! Good luck |
I have gone to wal-mart and got some bells from the fishing department and put them on a ribbon hanging from the door knob. Maggie rings the bells when she goes out. This makes it easy for her to let me know that she needs to go outside. when i first got maggie, i would wait outside for about 45 minutes before she would finally potty. but i wouldn't bring her in until she did her business!! she finally realized that if she just potties, she gets to go in. she caught on pretty quick and now we have no problems at all. maggie is right at 10 months old and she RARELY has an accident. i really think the bells help because she is able to tell me when she needs to go out. some say that is bad because SHE has ME trained...but i don't look at it that way. I believe dogs need to know how to tell you when they need to go out, and this makes it easy for her to tell me. it works for us. |

Bell Training We trained Zeus with the bell also. Everytime that we would take him out, we would either use his foot or nose and tap the bell. It only took a few days and he caught on. He is really funny. If you don't come to the bell right away, he will ring it insistently. :animal-pa |
