leash training HELP!! Any tricks for leash training?mine never likes treats...not cheese or meat even....so we have been doing all our training without food....YIKES. He has learned OFF, SIT , COME and to go on wee wee pad ( with accidents). He walks a tiny bit with my husband....very tiny bit....mainy willnot budge! HELP! :( |
How old is your puppy? |
Try this treat food... This really works for Izzy for our clicker training sessions and we only give her this during training. Once the package is open you can refrigerate - we cut into teeny, tiny pieces to help train Izzy and this should help with leash training. Start with loose leash - then start to walk - when she stops you stop and you don't go until she starts to move again - then when she does you praise her like crazy and give her a treat. I use the clicker so she is well tuned to that and knows that she has done something good for the clicker to go off. Izzy can sit, lay down, walk on leash, go to her bed on command, wait, leave it, etc., etc. Clicker training is awesome - check out this site too: www.clickertraining.com (with Karen Pryor) http://www.naturalbalanceinc.com/dog...s/DFRolls.html |

I have the same problem. I tried taking Kingston for a walk in the hallway of my apt. complex and he won't budge. He doesn't like treats either, so I've been training him with pets and praise. So far he knows his name, how to sit, and come. It's tough. I'm going to try plain boiled chicken tonight to see if he likes it. |
leash training I will be watching this with interest. My Murphy just lays down and cries when I attach the leash. He doesn't mind the halter ( I use a halter because if I use a collar he thinks I'm trying to choke him.) My two girls (Maggie and Fannie) love to go for a walk and look at him as if he is crazy. He doesn't mind wearing the halter around, but when I put the leash on he has a fit. I think he likes to be FREE. |
My pup Lilly loves to walk she see her harness come out she goes crazy I will carry her some of the way because I think she should be tried and she wiggles to get down She would walk 2 miles if I would let her Are you useing a Harness, with a very lite weight lead.? But some dogs just do not like it.. Daisy would only walk on the grass at first. She still has to be coax to get started Now Sissy loves to walk also. But she is always stoping I have to say leave it millions of times. Now do not take this the wrong way. I got a long switch and tap her bottom and said leave it when she wonder off and stop to sniff. It worked Good luck |
Try honey nut Cherrios for a treat mine love them |
I usually start by putting the leash on and letting them run around the house with it to get use to the feel. Once they seem comfortable I start the walking. I to will stop when they stop, and when they start again I praise like crazy. This has always worked for me. |
