Changing Location Of Pee Pad. Tia came to us already pee pad trained and I made the mistake of putting her pad in the dining area which is right through our living room. I did this as our house is large and I wanted it in an area where she would see it easily. This was a mistake. I should have put it in the mudd room and trained her for that location as this is where I wanted it. Anyway, October will be a year that she's been with us and I tried to move the pee pad to the mudd room. I kept showing her and putting her on it etc. and she'll use it but she'll also go and pee in the dinning area right where the pad was. Any suggestions? Thanks. Elaine (P.S. I guess dogs are not like cats in that they find their litter box no matter where it is. LOL) |
I have the same issue with Gracie. I set her pee pads up in her ex-pen. She will use them but she also goes just outside of the ex-pen. I have also placed pads there because I cannot break her from using that area. I have cleaned the carpet, used every kind of deodorizer and still she goes there. I want it all moved into the utility room so I can have my living room back. I'm thinking of ditching the ex-pen and moving all of her stuff to the utility room, and placing furniture where her current "room" is. Any thoughts? |
Mabe instead of making a big change to far away try just moving pad a little at a time ???? Just a thought ! |
I've always heard to move them a little at a time. I put mine in my smallest bedroom and now I wish I would've put them in the kitchen or the garage. I'm afraid to try to change them now, they've been in the bedroom their whole lives. I can't exactly move them a little at a time down the hallway and into the kitchen!:( Good Luck!!! Yep, moving them a few feet at a time is the way to do it! Put one back where it used to be, as well as one in the "final destination". Bring her to the new spot several times daily, and if she goes there, PRAISE, PRAISE! and TREAT! Then, over the next few days/weeks (depending on how far you have to move the pad), move the pad out of the dining room slowly, about 1-2 feet at a time, until it's right next to the one in the mud room. This does mean that you'll have a pee pad in the middle of your room for a few days, so try not to have company over :) until it's completely moved. Also, you might want to treat the carpet/flooring good with something like Nature's Miracle in the dining room where the old pad spot was. That way, it will help her not to pee in there anymore. I would not move it any farther than the length of the pad, each day. If they want to go back to where it was, set a toy box, or bed over that spot for a while. |
