More problems! Ok. I asked this before and got a really great suggestion to get an ex pen to solve the issue. But here is the deal...Tino has chewed through 2 baby gates in 1 weeks time! one plastic and one wood. He has a marking problem and we have been recently restricting his run due to a new place with lots of carpeting. He never really marked before (which suprised me because he is a stud). But after the move, every two seconds. So we started from scratch as if he were a puppy. Now with the ex pen suggestion I thought it was great until I got it home and there was no place to put it. I will not kennel him, I just can't do it. What other barriers can I use that he could not chew through. Is there a metal bar baby gate that I havent seen, if there isnt I swear I'd be rich to invent it! HELP MEEEEEEE! why is he so stressed out that he feels the need to dig and chew his way out everyday?!?!?!?!?:( |
Have you tried a belly band? How about a metal gate. |
Is there absolutely NO room in your kitchen? Even if you only have a small amount of space, you can adjust the size of your ex-pen and use it either as a gate or as a small version of your ex-pen. And I've noticed that my Tobi does the digging and scratching thing too. After reading some other threads here, I realized that I needed to "wear-out" some of his energy by taking him on looong walks and making him do some energy releasing tasks (going up stairs). That's worked for me in the past few days..hopefully it'll stay this way :P I hope everything works out for you! |
maybe you can make a "gate." when my sisters were little they liked to try and climb up the stairs. my mom got so fed up she took a piece of plywood, added some hinges and a hook/loop and attached it to the wall. it was like a barn door (sorry girls!) in front of the stairs. she also added some drawer liner or leftover wallpaper to make it not look just like a piece of wood. he won't be able to see out this way tho. edgar would chew the gate too because he could fit his mouth around it. |
metal baby gates work really well, we have them for our dogs now and they have been the best gates we've ever used. I forget the exact name we got them at Babies R Us (for the pets and my little neice) and I think the name of the company begins with Summer... They come in both white and black and also fit large openings. They are also spring-loaded so they don't have to be screwed into the wall or anything. |
It is a long shot. But, try purchasing a couple Comfort Zone Plug Ins. They generally work to calm the nerves of both canines and felines. However, they don't work on all. But, they are worth a try. Just plug them in outlets near the area that you are trying to confine your little guy in. And, IF they are going to work, you should find less digging, scratching, whinning and chewing. I found that with my crew, they tend to sleep more. GOOD LUCK! |

I think that I am going to try the metal gate. It is funny though, since he chewed through the last gate we havent had anything to confine him with becuase we can't lock him in the bathroom becuase he will make his paw bleed from digging, and he has a sore spot on his nose from sticking it under the door, so we have given him free run until we can go purchase the gate. He actually hasn't been a bad boy when we are gone. But when he gets out from the confinement he pees everywhere, should I just give him free run? Im confused.:confused: |
