Potty training regression Cookie is 10 months and we've had her fully potty trained up until a month ago. She's been pooping in the house every day! We punish her when she does it by putting a gate around the poo and then making her sit there with it for 10 minutes. The worst part is, is that she knows it's wrong because sometimes she'll run under the bed (before I find the poop) and hide. She never pees in the house, only #2. Why is she doing this? How do I re-train her? Your advice is so much appreciated! |
Im having the same problem. Gucci just turned 11 months. She has regressed also. She has being pooping and sometimes peeing on the floor next to my hubby side off the bed. I think i will have to retrain also. Good luck with your baby. |
I mentioned this problem to my breeder, my local Yorkie friend :), and she seemed to think she was retaliating or that Cookie was mad at us for something. She asked if anything in our home was changing or if we were giving her any less attention. I've been thinking about it everyday and I just cannot imagine what Cookie would be mad at us for. Maybe that's why Gucci is doing this? |
The only thing it comes to mind for her to be mad at me is that I brush her teeth daily and she hates it. I think she is getting lazy. |
if shes running under the bed that means she trained and she knows she did wrong when does she do it does she do it when you leave the room is she giving you a sign when she has to go mabee your taking to long to get her out the door mabee she dont wanna hold it ?? |
She does it at any given moment. Whether it be in the morning after we take her out once, while we're at work, or when we're watching TV. At first she started pooping at the door. But now she's started doing it everywhere. We keep her blocked off in the kitchen during the day and that's where she seems to poop the most. I mean, she'll poop there day or night. My husband thinks we should go back to crate training but I'm not sure I want to do that yet. :( |
Same happened here. Stewie hides and poops wherever he pleases. Mostly in corners and sometimes in my closet if I accidentally leave the sliding door open a bit (sometimes I don't find it right away and its GROSS). One day he peed and pooped all over my bedroom -- even while I was watching him do it! That was only one day though. He knows he is wrong because he cowers and hides afterward, too. Anyway, I have absolutely no advice, but I just wanted you to know that you're not alone. Good luck and send some luck my way, too. |
Start at the beginning again My Benni regressed totally after being hospitalized for a week. It was very frustrating and the vet did agree that he was probably punishing me for leaving him at the dreaded vets LOL. My vet told me to be very matter of fact, no scolding as he obviously knew what he did was wrong. I put the pads back down on the floor, started taking him out again as often as I used to when initially training him. Took about three weeks, and he went back to the 100% potty trained yorkie he was before. I guess he finally decided to "forgive me" |

Back to crate training Thanks for all your advice. Unfortunately, Cookie peed in the bedroom this morning before I got out of bed. So...back to crate training :( . Hopefully this helps. I will keep you posted for those of you that have the same problem with your babies. |
Thank you all for the advise. I will start her potty training again. I noticed that she usually poops or pees by my husband side of the bed on the floor. Even if she is laying down on our bed she will get down and pees on the floor. Last nite I put a pee pad by my hubby 's side of the bed and she pee on it, but poop next to the pee pad. I know is not separation anxiety cause Im always home due to the fact that Im on dissability. Only time she is alone is when I go to the doctor but she is alone just a couple of hours. :dog: |
Gucci is almost a year old, and she is doing the same thing. Lately she poops wherever she wants to. She was trained on the wee wee pads, she is not lacking attention if anything she has more. My son is home during the day from college, so she is always around family. This is becoming frustrated, she knows she did wrong when I yell bad girl. What's the solution?? Maybe its just the name Gucci..lol for I see that the other Gucci is regressing... |

Often times when a dog runs and hides from you it's a conditioned response from your emotions or the idea of a previous event. When dealing with a situation like this it is best to not punish the dog unless you catch them in the act, after about 30 seconds the dog will have no idea what you are punishing him for. And this goes for all breeds, now im not trying to call anyone's dog stupid or dumb, Im simply saying that their minds work differnt from ours since they are dogs. If you were to pick them up and punish them when finding something at random and putting their face in it they would have no clue, Dog's do not inheritenly know what obedience is nor do they now what right or wrong is. They must learn this from there pack in early socialization, and from us and the way our emotions and actions come thru to them will help them to develop those responses. |
