One More Question. When crate training, should there be NO potty pad IN the crate, even if its kept away from the bedding? I have an xpen also, should i let the crate door be open and lead into the xpen and put potty pads in there? I just worry that if he learns to go on the potty pads, he will never learn to hold it because the option of the potty pad will always be there... |
hi Dont put one in! they would cry all night if you make him pee pee were he sleeps :( so make sure to block it off with blankets in the back. hope it helps |
When I had Lilly, I covered the entire crate with blankets, and I also had a fleece lining in it so she was comfortable. She never once peed in her crate, which was amazing because she was sick. But, I do think the reason was because I covered the entire surface, including corners, with baby receiving blankets. Otherwise, she may have tried to go in a corner that wasn't covered. I just made sure I took her out often so she could pee, and she never had an accident, bless her little heart.:lovewings Good luck!! |
no pee pads in the crate. This will just teach them to potty where they sleep. I personally don't keep pee pads in her expen either. That just teaches them that they can potty whenever they like in the house and they don't learn to hold it. Without offering my yorkie pee pads and by taking her out frequently as a pup she learned to hold it until i take her outside. Morgan goes outside 3 maybe 4 times a day to potty and never goes in her crate or pen (or anywhere else in the house for that matter) |
 good advise, I dont use peepads at all anymore, molly is only 15 weeks and i just keep taking her out every 1/2 hour, she is now able to hold it for at least 7 hrs at night.i only used them for the first few days them slowly took them away, her crate has a cute baby blanket and her favorite baby in there, best of luck to you:) |
thanks for all the advice. it wasn't making sense to me when people were telling me to leave potty pads in the xpen and all around the house, i was thinking "ok, so how is he ever going to learn to hold it if he ALWAYS has the option of going in the house??" |
on the weekends, Morgan can hold it for 12 hours. LOL i'm a lazy ass. me and the BF sometimes stay in bed till 2ish. |
