Marcel's Potty Training Went South... So, he's 7.5 mths. old now - and he was better trained when he was 5 months old!! Granted, his hormones kicked in about a month ago - so I'm sure he's having a difficult time. He's just lost it most of the time, then suddenly - he goes on the pad. Next day, pees on our bed, pees on the couch, pees wherever he wants. We want to wait until Sept. for the neuter to allow him to gain as much weight as possible beforehand (currently 2.5 pounds) - so we're kinda stuck. My QUESTION is, do you think this is marking? And, once he's neutered, will his memory kick back in or will we be basically starting from scratch? |
Ann, my Tiger got neutered when he was about 11 months old so even after he was fixed he continues to mark  Good thing he has been on BB forever otherwise I would have yellow carpet :) Maybe someone with more experience will be able to answer your concerns :) I love his avatar pictures . . . and he is such a tiny precious little stud muffin |
can you put a belly band on him? |
I feel your pain, I just oredered 2 bb for my boys, they are 2 & 3 and have been trained for a very long time, Im thinking maybe its because of my baby, i cant tell witch one is doing it, so i bought one for each:rolleyes: and they have been lifting in wierd places. |
I did buy some BBs (from Tiger's Mom!!!!) :), so I'll start to use those - but I still want the little turd to learn right from wrong in terms of where to go. He was doing so, so well - and I just can't figure out what happened! |
girl i made a thread about this not to long ago lol skoshi was completely potty trained to go outside and about 6 months his hormones kicked in and guess what im going through the same thing as you. lol and really starting over isnt helping. it was just one spot he would go to and use it. now he trys to mark pillows and the couch and the cat scratcher and the kitchen cabinets lol. we are going crazy too. |
I'm ready to clamp his manhood! |
Oh No! Don't tell me that I have this marking to look forward to in a few months. Zachary is 14 weeks old and is doing fairly well with his potty training. I will go nuts if he starts marking on everything I have. I pray that don't happen to me. |

Tatiana, this is too bizarre!!! We are living mirrored lives! I swear. You must me my cosmic twin or something. Even though all this peeing off the reservation makes me crazy, it is reassuring to know that others are going through it as well. |

Right now, I am thankful for earth tones, my friend! |
We had some of the same issues. Both of mine were virtually 100% trained by 5 months. But after they were neutered at 7 months, Archie decided he would no longer use the pads. If I didn't remind him in time, he would just pee anywhere. Quite maddening when he also would just go near --- but not on --- the pads. It was either outside or anywhere he pleased. Most frustrating was that he would use pads to poop, just not pee. It took a couple of months to get him back on track. I think he's back now. He hasn't had an accident in the last month or more, and has actually used the pads to pee a couple of times. He still mostly goes outside -- we have a sliding door that is always open during the day so the dogs and cats can go in and out at will. Sounds like many pups have some backsliding about the same age. Willie on the other hand has not had a single accident since he was about 4 months old. Same age (they are litter mates) and same house, same training methods (right or wrong) so much can only be attributed to puppy personality I suppose. Or I don't know what --- Archie was much quicker to get basic commands -sit, down etc. It was just the potty training issue with him. Wish I knew the answer, but I don't. I guess just patience, patience, patience and persistence. |

OH!!!!!!! EXACTLY!!!!!!!! He'll go 5 inches away, 1 foot away...whatever! |
With a face like his, he can pee on my rug anytime! I love 'm. |

I'd have to look away from that sweet face if I was even going to try to be stern. |
I definitely think he is marking. I just had Lulu spayed. The vet only wanted to wait until she was seven months to do the surgery being so small. She went in and came out with flying colors. Maybe for now if you need to use a belly band on him. I think Marcel can handle the surgery. |

Let me tell you when I took her back for her suture removal a week later (mind you also spaying is worse than neutering) the vet was signing her praises. He was going on and on about how much of a trooper she was in recovery. She was back to herself the very next day. So if you have the money now then do it. I think that if the marking gets too far gone you can't get him to stop. We had that problem with our yorkie male Lex. Then with him even after his damn neuter he continued marking in the house. If I had it to do again I would have done it before he was six months old. |
I would put a belly band on him. And from what I hear about potty training, peolple can quit too soon. They think their baby is trained when he's not and quit with the training. Later on he's worse than he was months ago. Now I'm sure that's not everybody, but something to consider. He's a male and could possible be marking. I would be very consistent with the belly bands/training until you're sure he's 100%!! Hope that helps. My knowledge from the knowledgable :) |
