Shaq is not behaving well with the new pup Hi; We have brought the new pup to visit a few times (he lives around the corner) and Shaq has been behaving real bad, growling at him or he runs upstairs and doesn;t want to come down until the pup goes home..what shoul i do, the pup is coming to live with us in 4 weeks when he is 12 weeks. |
That's a tough one. Maybe try to keep bringing him to your house as much as possible so he can start getting used to him and his scent. Good luck, I hope it all works out. Does he do well with other dogs? |
Thank You, that's exactly what i am doing, bringing the puppy in for an hour or so almost every day, i know its going to take time. |
I brought home a maltese puppy 3 weeks ago, she was 12 weeks old. My yorkie had not been around too many dogs and was skittish around her. Natalie had only seen her once before we brought her home so you are lucky there. The puppy chases her all around and plays agressively, pulls hair etc. At first I only let them down togther when I was right there and Natalie always had an opportunity to escape. I didn't want her to feel trapped and hurt the puppy. I set their pens up right next to each other so they are close all day and all night but not in the same pen. Now Natalie can hardly wait to play with Lilli, when one of then starts to get too aggressive, I separate them until they calm down. I still keep them in their separate pens and hope one day to merge them but not anytime soon. My biggest problem has been that Natalie, 2 yrs old this month, still pees/poops in the house and the puppy is starting to lose her pee pad training. Good luck with your new baby. |
Is Shaq well socialized with other dogs? You will probably have to keep them separated for a while, until he get used to the idea that the puppy isn't going away. some dogs never do really play together, but the older dog usually tolerates the other one if he has a clear understanding that YOU are the boss and not THEN. |
