Socialization Hey you guys! My baby is soooo scared of EVERYTHING! He is the ONLY dog I know who HATES walks! I cannot even get him out the door. He won't let the vet or anyone else touch him besides me. Anybody else had this problem when their cuties were just babies? How do I socialize him properly if he goes crazy everytime he's within 5 feet of another person or dog? |
yes I do understand MINE DID THE SAME.. AFTER THE VET STUFF THE LAST 2 WEEKS HE GOT WORSE. WE HAVE A BEHAVER LADY, A LADY THAT COMES IN TO WASH HIM. HES A HAND FUL.... BUT HE STARTED LIKE YOURS. NOW LITTLE BY LITTLE HE IS GETTING BETTER. I TAKE HIM TO HIS COMFORT ZONE THEN A LITTLE PAST EACH TIME.. SO NOW HE LOVES WALKS. BUT IF SOME ONE IS COMING CLOSE I PICK HIM UP TO NOT LET HIM BE AGGRESSIVE. BUT I DONT TALK TO HIM AND TELL HIM THAT IT IS O.K.( MOMMY WILL SAVE YOU ) NO ..NO NO...TALKING . I JUST SPIN AND PUT HIM DOWN. THEY DONT WANT ME TO REINFORCE THE FEAR. ALSO WHEN I SEE SOME ONE WE HAVE A GO FIND IT GAME WITH TREATS. I THROUGH THEM ON THE GROUND AND LET HIM FIND THEM TAKES HIM AWAY FROM THE FEAR TO SOMTHING HE LIKES.HOPE THIS HELPS. THEY DO GET BETTER WITH LOTS OF LOVE. THE SIT & STAY THING IS GOOD. i M SURE THE REAL OLD TIMERS WILL HELP. I ALSO AM NEW AT THIS JULIE & TEDE-BARE |
Also What Happen When?? Waht Happens When You Are Out Of The Room? Does He Do O.k. With Some One Else. Mine Does Great When Hes Not Protecting Me... Just Food For Thought |
Take him to a puppy school that is set up for small breed dogs. In my class, they would put the puppy in it's own ring of safety and let the other dogs greet him through the barrier. There were other activities that were used to help the dogs get over their fear of people and other dogs. Most important is not to allow other people or dogs to forcefully invade your baby's space. If you can't find a class that can accommodate small breeds, then an animal behaviorist or private training sessions might be helpful. Hey, maybe you could contact Ceaser Milan? |
Thats also what I have heard to do. By taking them to a puppy school, but make sure there are not really big dogs in the class, that should help some by atleast getting him out there to see the other dogs. |
