Yorkies are very smart, and I'm always amazed at how fast Jake catches on to things! You can teach a yorkie lots and lots of tricks, it just takes consistency and patience, along with lots of praise and treats!:) |
I went to Petsmart and did two different classes on training, and to me it helped, Aubrey acts great. But I started trainign him I think when he was about 3 months old, so I started him young, now he minds me fine. Potty training took me a long time. For some reason it would just not click with him. |
Think of training as two way communication. You can teach a dog to do ANYTHING he/she is physically capable of doing. Yorkies can be a bit more of a challenge to train, but it can be done. LacieBug, my first Yorkie was a true joy to train, until she got sick she was ready, willing and able to learn all sorts of things very quickly. She could: do the basic sit, stay, down come plus some really fun stuff.... Yawn Crawl Play dead Roll over Rhe would jump over things on command -- our favorite being Boo the Boxer Shake Hands I am sure there are more things, but my memory isn't as good as it used to be and LacieBug has been gone for many years. Boo the Boxer will even poo or pee on command. |
How did you learn how to teach your dog those tricks. Did you get a book, or did you go to a Pet Trainer? |

Yeah, When I did pet training with Aub we would make it fun and play, I would bring toys into the training session. |
I have trained my baby to sit, sit up, lay down, and shake hands in all three of those positions. Just be patient and they will pick it up easier than if you are impatient with them. ;) Goodluck! |

I'm so glad I read this post today. I am feeling a little discouraged. Our sweet Rainbow is 5 1/2 months old and she can sit, stay, speak, lay down, shake, high 5, and almost wave. She learns the tricks oh so fast. But no matter what I do, i can not get her potty trained. At night when we are asleep.. She will potty on the pads, all night long. But as soon as we wake up, she starts going in the floor. And it differs from day to day, sometimes she won't poop on the pad. Sometimes I can have 4 pee pads through the house, and she will go right beside it. We recently moved and we thought that since we didn't have carpet anymore, it would be easier to train her. wrong again. I don't know what to do. should i put her in the bathroom at night? Any advice....? |
