Training Treats I am trying to train my puppy and am looking for some good puppy treats. Most of the ones I have seen are too big. I found some little ones that were soft and i was able to cut them even smaller but they are upsetting her stomach.... Anyone have any suggestions? |
When I need really good treats, I use tiny bites of cheese or leftover chicken cut into pieces the size of a pencil eraser. Sometimes, Joey is happy to work just for pieces of his kibble - especially if he is hungry! Some people use Cheerios but I've been concerned about what the sugar content will do to his teeth so I haven't gone that route. Have fun training your pup! |

I use Nature's Recipe Training Treats. They are only sold at Petsmart. They are about the size of a pinky fingernail and are soft, so I can use my fingernail to break them in half as the perfect size treat for a 2 pound dog. They look like little tiny veal steaks. I LOVE these and she is bonkers for them. |
i use Cheerio's :) |
I use Nutro's Natural Choice: Lamb and rice treats. I used to give Pupperoni to Chico, but when I began researching Yorkies (mostly on YT) I ran across articles on harmful ingredients in dog food and threw it away. I stopped feeding Chico Eukanuba Dog food (the food that I thought was the best that money could buy) afterwards and switched him over to Innova dog food. Benji eats Innova puppy but he sneaks Chico's larger kibble when I'm not looking. Now I look at labels before I buy food or treats for my babies. I don't buy anything with meat-by-products, corn, corn syrup, etc. Wellness has some good treats too that you can buy at Petsupermarket but you would have to cut it up yourself. Nutro's treats can easily be broken into smaller pieces with your hands like Pupperoni which is why I decided to use it for potty training. I also like Milk-Bone:Original bone marrow training treats, and Pedigree's:Breath Buster treats as once-a-day treats for when they are behaving. Good luck finding something that works for your furbaby. Hope this helps. :) |
I use a few different things. I use the nature's choice from petsmart, but only when he's done something really great (like pooped on his pad) I used to use them all the time but the first ingredient is corn syrup and I got worried about the sugar. For trick training I use cheerios and goldfish crackers. Our trainer uses some kind of cheese wafers that Paddington really likes, but I don't remember the name of them. -O |

I'll have to look again. The jar is at my apartment, and I am at my parents' right now. They are the Nature's Choice treats that have the Petsmart label on them and look like miniature steaks. Maybe I was reading a different label and mixed them up in my mind? I'll have to look again, but I thought it was an odd ingredient to be first on a product that is marketed as "natural", but then again not so odd if you consider other things. -O |
I use little pieces of viennas and as I am from SA I also use biltong (dried pieces of meat). My yorkie will do anything for these.:D |
