my yorkie rips up my carpet i need help, serious help. my yorkie named brooklyn riped up my carpet in a number of areas. But in two areas he really took it off the floor and ripped up the sponge stuff underneath the carpet. i need to figure out something to do. my husband is fed up. he even mentioned that we might have to give away brooklyn. i need help!! |
I wish I had a good answer for you....the timing of this post was just right as I just went into Coopers room (aka laundry room) and he was chewing on the corner of one of the rugs in there (now he is in his crate for a break)......hubby is about ready to give him away between the chewing on furniture and rugs and play biting (he thinks hubby is his personal chew toy). So, I am open to any and all resposes for help here. Good luck to both of us. |
Does he have enough toys? Maybe you should try to get him some new toys. A toy that is possibly the same material as your carpet. Hopefully he stops!! good luck. Missy use to bite on our furnitures, and it is quite common for these little cute buggers to do. I got her some new toys, hard toys especially.... because I understood what she was going through (teething) and she eventually stopped. of course here and there I'd say NO! |
carpet Mine also does this, I have t areas that she has pulled where the carpet meets up with the tile, I now have a baby gate I put up in one area and the other I always have a rug over and make sure che cannot get to it, she does it when We leave her to long, I do not know what else to do, I would rather give the carpet up than her. |
Lacy did this to a section of my carpet when she was a puppy. She was my first dog and I tried just letting her run loose in the house at first as a puppy. Obviously that didn't work, and I got a crate. Once I started crate training, everything became better. Chewing up the carpet is something you need to train your dog not to do. Don't blame the puppy's bad behavior on him..it is your job to train him. You need to keep him in a crate or X-pen when not home or when you can't supervise him while you are at home. If you're supervising your dog you will immediately be able to correct him if he starts to do something he shouldn't. BTW LOVE his name! So cute! |
I would get a crate or an xpen for your babies! I use the bathroom for my babies and pick up everything off the floor, put their food, water, bones & chew toys in there with them. Keep them in their area when you have to leave them alone or can not supervise them. Think of it as a playpen for dogs. Shoot, if you have a playpen try that even! I would treat the carpet with bitter apple sent, or chili powder, something they will not like, as far as furniture I would treat their favorite chew spots with hot sauce! Good luck to you both! |
Chewing of Carpets. I agree with Tina, toys and lots of them of diferent textures will help as I think they do this if they are bored or teething. Check if he is not lonely maybe? |
As stated toys and a crate would really help. Crate training is one of the best things you can do for those kinds of issues. With my first yorkie I had that problem and that is the only thing that would stop her. She was a carpet PAIN. Always wondered what she was digging too. If you are not able to watch them sometime crating or an x-pen is the best thing for them. |
How old is Brooklyn. Puppies will tear up anything. It's probably not a good idea to leave him alone in a carpeted area. Mine have to stay in the laundry room when I'm gone. Well actually they are in their most of the day with a doggie door that goes out onto the patio. They have chewed the edges on area rugs, but not the carpet. Most dogs outgrow the destructive phase by the age of 2. Just because they are full grown does not mean they are mature. |
