chewing on cords Gizmo seems to like chewing on electric cords...laptop, lamp, etc... I redirect him, remove cords when possible, and I bought some Bitter End spray from Petco. I wasn't impressed with that product. Any other suggestions? My husband suggested jalepeno juice. I think/hope he was joking! |
Clear roll-on deodorant worked wonders for us! |
Never thought of that! I'll give it a try. Thanks! :) |
I'm not quite sure what Bitter End spray is...but have you tried Bitter Apple? I tried it with Tobi, and he just sniffs it, and then walks away from whatever I spray it on. Best of luck to finding something that works for you and your baby! :aimeeyork |
I've never used roll-on deodorant. I'll have to try that one. I have used tabasco sauce before and that works wonders for chewing on cords. |

Had the same problem with Gracie. I used the clear gel deodorant. It stays around longer and it worked great, plus it smells good! I do have some phone lines running along the floor for my puters and those take forever to gel up. I just bought some clear duct tape and taped them to the floor. Gracie can't get at those. Yet another wonderful use for duct tape! |
1 Attachment(s) When I first came, seen several here, that had to buy new laptop cords cause their babies chewed through them. Mine is still like this, as I hear laptop cords are expensive, lol. |

My son's Rottie/Shepard/Pitt Bull mix chewed a lamp cord, and had to have half of his tongue surgically removed. BEWARE ELECTRICITY:eek: |
Yes, I know how bad electricity can be, that's why I'm worried. When my son was little he came running in the room saying, "Mommy, I was lectricuted!!" My response was, "You were shocked?!!" The little toot just calmly shook his head and said, "No, I knew it would happen!" LMAO I have heard of several animals hurt this way, but what I really keep picturing is National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation....that poor cat! |

Now I can laugh about it! Then...not so much. He's twenty now and studying to be an ELECTRICAL engineer. Ironic huh? |
The deodarant is a good idea. I tried the bitter apple and it did not work. Kiwi has chewed our phone, computer cord and mouse cord, our dresser, my curling iron. It was horrible-but his was her first few months. We put cords up or try to block them with something. Now that she is a year, I am hoping it will stop. |
Roscoe chewed on my laptop cord and last night he chewed on my bf's external hard-drive USB cord...these things are expensive and I cannot deal with his chewing...I will go home and try the clear deodorant...any name brand suggestions??? |
I use the solid deodorant. works everytime for us. |
You know, at Home Depot (or any similar type store) you can buy cord "covers" that you insert the wires/cords into a hard plastic case. |
I just use a stern voice, and he will quit, and then I will give him like a rope toy.. seems to get his mind off of it. Then if he tries to go back I just look at him. Hes only messed with the cords once under my desk.. so I don't have that much experience with it. Good luck solving your problem! |
Myla decided to start chewing cords and I put Bitter Apple on the cords once and never had to use it again. (so far  ) |
Dixie actually likes the bitter apple. Whenever I spray it on something she comes running and licks off the bitter apple like its the best thing she ever tasted. She must be missing some tastebuds:rolleyes: |

I put on the clear deodorant this morning and watched him approach a cord. At first I was worried because he licked it several times like he couldn't decide if he liked it or not. Then, he walked away and kept licking his mouth for several minutes. Oh, poor baby! (NOT!) So far today, he has not approached a cord. Soo...so far, so good! |
The bitter apple works good, the natures miracle behavior aid works well, and there is some kind of spray or powder you can sprinkle on and near the area with the cords and the smell keeps them from wanting to get close. Of course its suppose to be odorless to us...never tried it but heard it works pretty well too. |
What worked for us Bitter End didn't work for us either. Our puppy LOVED IT!! We bought bitter apple instead... I am not sure what the dif between the two are, but the bitter apple seemed to work wonders for us. Good luck I know its a hard thing. |
I have since learned a little trick...you have to reapply every day! Sounds simple right? Then why didn't I think of it? LOL The deodorant has worked better than anything else. :) |
