Multi-potty training? Is it possible to train your yorkie to go potty in both the house and outside? I was looking at some different posts about yorkies sleeping in the bed with their owners and one person said her yorkie, jumps from the bed to go potty on the pad around 4am without her having to get up.....whats up with the 4am thing anyway? Its a universal yorkie code I think. Anyway, Tobie is trained to go pee outside and will walk to the end of the bed and look back over his shoulder when has to go, or when he's playing will stop all of a sudden and look at you like "I gotta go mom" Is it possible to train him to go in a particular spot at night INSIDE, I know that sounds lazy, but those 4am trips outside are rough sometimes. Any thoughts or experiences?:animal-pa |
I have been wondering this same thing especially at 4 am potty time in the dead of winter! I hope someone has an answer. |

My 2 are pad trained but will go outside in the little fenced area I have for them and my Pom who is only trained to go outside. I think it is easier to train them to pads first then try and get them use to going in the house once they are outdoor trained but I am not sure as mine was the other eay around. Also, no matter that they are pad trained Pixie wakes me up at 4:30 just for fun! |
Mine are trained to go outside during the day, and pee pad during the night. I started them as puppies in this routine but trained them on pee pads first, even outside. Then gradually removed the pads outside and only kept them indoors for the overnight. If they're outdoor trained first, you'll need to give them the scent on the pee pad before they'll use it. Maybe bring the pad outside and let them pee on it, then bring it in. I'm sure with persistence you'll be able to avoid those 4AM trips outside! And I agree with you butterfly, I think it's a universal yorkie code. :) |
How old is your pup? Loki stopped going out in the middle of the night once he got a little older. By 1 year he always slept through the night. We only go out now if they are restless or have had too much to drink before bed. |
