Ok i am just frusterated....please help!!! Hello, I havent been on much ...I work and have school so Its not often im on here...:( ..lol Anyways my problem is that Fergie is just out of control. She just DOESNT listen. First things first I cannot get her to go in her litter box on her own anymore. When we first had her(i mentioned this before i believe) It didnt take long at all for her to get used to going in the littler box. She even when go on her own....cover it up herself...and sit and wait for a treat...or not...but then we got her fixed(not sure if that even has anything to do with it) and its like she is starting all over again. I have to constantly bring her around her litter box...to remind her where to go...if i forget ....she will just pee on the floor. She doesnt seem to respond at all to NO ....or Come ...or anything....she just stares blankly .....i used to think being calm and aggresive would work....but it hadnt....she is 10 months old and is showing basically no improvement...i have NEVER had a dog that has acted so bold....dont get me wrong I love her...but she just doesnt seem to respond.... how can i get her to realize that she just cant do what she wants?? i have her space limited...and i routinly bring her to her litter box...im confused...and totally annoyed.......i dont know what to do please help...lol |
I just got a wonderful book called The Loved Dog by Tamar Gellar. You may want to check it out! :) It's hard for all of us to remember I think that dog's don't "get" our language. They only get associations, tone of voice, ect. I have bad days too, so I totally get your frustration, but maybe by understanding your puppy has totally different communication than us will help. That's what makes me feel better when I'm thinking "why don't they get it"?. |
yea i might have to do that......i just wish there was a specific "something" im supposed to do to fix it....lollol i know sounds crazy....im just tired!! lol |
I agree The Loved Dog is awesome and totally worth the read!!! And believe me, I know frustration! :D |
In addition to the above, I would return her to Kindergarten. Crate her and start over with the potty training. If you don't have time for this, I suggest you try to find her a boot camp of sorts. Where I live, there are several dog training companies that take your dog for a few weeks and work on all of the basics. After that, it is up to you to maintain what they have learned. You could also consult with an animal behavior specialist. Good luck! |
Yep, I agree. After Tink was spayed, she regressed in her potty training. So, she is back to being crated and re-trained too. I'll let you know if it works. So far it is slow going. |
i hope things start to get better for you and your baby soon |
Hey! Things are looking up here at Tink's house. She has only had one potty accident in the past week and that was because we couldn't get to the potty pad. It was stuck behind a box (I'm moving) and she sure tried to get to it. Now poops, are a different oyster. She never used to poop on the floor and now she almost always poops on the floor. I haven't figured that one out yet. Fortunately they are firm but if we get any loose ones I'm not gonna be happy. Hopefully now that we are moved, she'll get better with that too. How are you doing with your baby? |
One thing that we read with regard to training of all types was to keep the dog on a leash next to you. That way you always have control. It isn't easy, but you never have the dog out of your sight. Ours was on a leash for nearly a year, but we had less problems when we started the leash training. I believe that it goes back to the same issue of giving them too much space. Our vet explained that to them the house is like a football field!:) |
