I love these books! I just bought two books over the weekend, and they are wonderful! I recommend them to everyone! One is the dog whisperer book, which really talks about doggie behaviors and why dogs do what they do, and why some training methods work and others don't. It talks a lot about people's frustrations with training their dog, and offers wonderful solutions to these common problems. I think anyone who is training their dog and is unsuccessful at any aspect of it should go to the library and check this book out! The other is dog tricks for dummies... It has some pretty good ideas about how to get your dog to do simple tricks like shake and sit. It is a great place to start from for people like me who have never trained a dog before. I've trained other animals, but never a dog, and these two books helped me understand how to get the behaviors I want from my puppy (who is catching on to the tricks very quickly!) I don't know the authors, nor am I affiliated in any way with the publishers and distributors of these books, I just think they are aswesome and wanted to recommend them! Get them from the library if they have them! -O |
thanks for the advice.....i have been wanting to teach bella tricks! i will go check those books out.... |
I just bought The Loved Dog by Tamar Geller and I am really enjoying it. It talks about training your dog in a playful, nonaggressive way without hitting or choke collars and it really makes sense to me. Tucker and I have just started working on "sit" today and we're doing a pretty good job so far. It's definitely worth a read. |
Silly me! I just looked at the books again, and the one is The Complete Idiot's Guide to Dog Tricks, not Dog Tricks for Dummies! The full title of the Dog Whisperer's book is "The Dog Whisperer, A Compassionate, Nonviolent Approach to Dog Training" JRo, I saw that book, but didn't look inside it! Maybe I'll look that one up too! Sit is the first thing Paddington learned, and it only took him two fifteen minute practice trials to get it down. Good luck with Tucker! I'm sure he'll get it soon if he is already doing well with it! Good luck with Bella, too! With these stubborn (but *smart*) animals, we'll need luck! -O |
Thanks for the suggestions! Another good one is "Yorkshire Terriers for Dummies" |
I also purchased the Dog Tricks for Dummies. I would definitely recommend it. |
