My little sneeky brat! Mocha is nearly 17 mths old and still not house trained. Some he does outside but still lots inside, of both types. My dining room/living room area is blocked off, unless someone leaves the gate open. anyway, lastnigth I gathered up my laundry and headed downstairs to the laundry room. Shut the door and loaded the machine. Next thing I know my son says "Mochas peeing on the wall!" I don't understand why he still does this. He's been neutered since November, has free access to the doggy door (and he had just been out) in nice weather and spends a good amount of time out there with my other two dogs. He knows how to ask out and will wake me up at night to go out. I have a crate but hesitate to use it. The accidents don't happen necessarily when we aren't around. A lot of the time he goes out then sneeks off to do it. Any suggestions? I don't even know how to punish hime since most of the time he does it unknowingly. Thaks |

Yorkies can be hard to train. My advise, along with the previous post, is to keep him with you at all times when he is in the house loose. Keep him tethered to your waist or belt. The ONLY way to break him is to take away his freedom and give redirection when he is caught in the act. Leash him in the yard and when he goes give him a cheerio reward. If you stick to this consistently for a few weeks, he should be broke. He will love you for it! Clean all his areas well. Good luck and keep us posted! |
You shouldn't punish him. There is absolutely nothing you can do if you find an accident later but sigh and clean it up. If you catch him in the act, you can give a loud "NO!" to interrupt him, scoop him up, and take him outside to finish. Praise and reward him if he does finish outside. Be sure that he is being adequately rewarded for pottying appropriately. When you can't watch him like a hawk, keep him contained in an area where he is less likely to have accidents. Good luck! |
