Sleeping schedule? How does one regulate the sleeping schedule of a puppy? My puppy will only go to sleep at night at around 2am. He sleeps alot during day time. Always irregular times so I have no idea how to control his sleeping schedule... Any ideas? |
How old is your puppy? |
Try increasing his level of exercise. If he's sleeping all day, he needs a good long walk in the evening to wear him out. Of course, that's easier said than done. I distinctly remember Eddie keeping me up at night when he was a pup. The good news: He'll get over it once he learns your routine. |
Take him on a long walk before you go to bed |

I am still trying to figure that out myself. Mine will go to bed when we do however she only sleeps 3 hours and then is up. Then she will sleep another 2 and then is up again. Then after that she will sleep until we get up to go to work. The walk thing might work, I will have to try that. |
my problem is getting Banjo to sleep longer than 5.30am He's like an alarm clock. I just dont want to get up so early. How can I get him to sleep longer. |

He sleeps with me at night, but when he wakes me up in the morning, I put him in his expen that is right next to my bed. He whines for a little while (like less than a minute), but then either goes back to sleep, or plays quietly in his pen. I would reccomend this, but it would probably only work if you have a relitively quiet baby like mine. |
Do you leave him alone during the day? He is only 9 weeks so there is a lot of puppy energy that he's probably just discovering, my little guy is almost 7 months and he still like to party all night, haha! The key is taking a walk or just lots of playing, chances are you'll tire before he does, but keep going. With Vinnie I would sit at the end of the longest hallway we have and just keep throwing toys for him to bring back, then I would get myself ready for bed about an hour before I hoped to hit the pillow. About a half an hour before the time i want to go to bed, I lay down with him on my chest and massage him behind his ears and down his back it relaxes him and eventually he passes out so I can just carry him to bed, aka his crate. It's to the point now where sometimes he gets on the couch and crys for me to come over so he can curl up on me, almost like he's putting me to bed! Vinnie is still young too but I know eventually he'll put himself to bed and won't be interested in cuddling with mommy, so for now I take what I can get! |
