Why is he doing this??? He has taken up to peeing and pooping on the kitchen floor all of a sudden  He was doing so well, and he has for the most part peed on pads. Pooping has always been an issue since he doesn't seem to want to poop on the pad, but to poop 2-3 inches away from it  But now he poops and pees in the kitchen BUT ONLY when I'm at work. Once I get home, he's peeing on the pad and everything. So now I have to block off the kitchen so he doesn't go there. Why is he doing this? :thumbdown  |
Anyone Know!!!??? :( |
sorry, dont know, lexi did the same thing.. actually i still sometimes come home to pooop on the rug, like last night... and i dont know why.. |
I don't get it, it's like he knows where to go pee, cause when I am home he goes on it all by himself. |
Well, if we knew why our dogs do some of the things they do, it would be a heck of a lot easier. I would say he isn't fully trained and you need to go back to working with him and reminding him of the proper place. sometimes our dogs do so good and we assume they are all trained, when in reality it hasn't totally sunk in and they need reinforcements. Remember, it isn't natural for a dog to pee/poo inside on a pad, obviously they can be trained to do that, but it isn't a natural thing for them. I would just back up and start over. Kathy |
He probably knows that when you're gone, he's not going to get punished so he goes whereever he pleases. Hootie used to do this. I had to keep her crated until she was about 10 months old. Now, at 1 year of age, she finally has the hang of not going potty where she isn't supposed to!~ |

I have been gone more since I have to take care of my Dad and Cali and Pixie have both started peeing and pooping off the pads. I have reinforced the pad training and making a big deal and rewarding them when they go on the pad and I gate them in the back half of the house when I'm gone and they are getting better, but not 100%. I think Pixie was so use to going whereever for 13 months that I will have a continuing problem and then Cali thinks well if she can do it so can I. |
They are clever little stinkers. Our little girl does not want to go outside on our deck on her potty pad, where we moved it from the kitchen because we did not like having people come in the house and seeing it. So now our little girl waits until we aren't watching her and will just quietly drift off to the kitchen and do her business. It only takes her 5 seconds I swear because we have barely even begun to notice she's not right there with us and by then it's always too late. So what I've had to do is to tether her to me with her extending leash after her evening meal when she usually goes. She is clever enough to know that when she is on the leash, she can't sneak away and do her business. So she'll hold it, hoping she'll get off the leash at some point. But eventually, nature wins out and she has to go outside on her pad, since we keep taking her out there. The other thing I have noticed is that they seem to prefer going when you aren't watching. I have no idea why, since other dogs don't seem to have an issue with this. But I've found that if I put her outside on our deck where the potty pad is and then just go in the house and watch her from a distance where she can't see me, she will poop. If I am out there with her waiting for her to go, she won't poop. So that's what I've figured out so far. Also other Yorkie owners have told me that they seem to not get totally housebroken until they are about a year old. |
I think he is mad at you Nobella for leaving ! |

Walking Wanted to reply to pooping 2 or 3 inches from the pad.......Dax does not like to go poop when I am watching so just recently I was able to figure out why he goes 2 or 3 inches from the pad. He will start out on the pad then after he squats he starts to walk and usually by the time the doo falls he is off the pad lol. I am afraid there is no breaking him of this habit so I try to keep the pad off the carpet where it is easy to clean. He is also bad about putting his front feet on the pad then when he pees it is actually hitting the floor. I just cannot bring myself to scold him because he thinks he is doing right. I am going to try putting my pad in a shallow plastic box this should solve my problem. |
