Outside Potty Training I realized I just might not have a clue how to do this. Josie is 10 weeks old, and goes potty outside, when I take her. I always reward her when she goes. Problem, she has no clue to go to the door herself. I am not sure if she is to young and I am expecting to much, but if I do not personally take her out, she will go potty where ever. Also can I use the clicker for this. I would really appreciate, if someone would could give me the outside training tips here, Okotoks, TIA |
I just kept taking Luigi out every couple hours or soo and would not bring him til he went peepee or poopoo. And we would take hi m out as soon as he woke up, 20 mins after he ate, right after we played alot amd always right before bed. And during the day, every 2 hours or so. I think he got the hang of the repitition, cuz 1 day he just walked over to the door and looked at me like-- well, whatcha waiting for??? I think he just got it. So try to get him on a schedule and stick to it!!! And repitition, repitition, repition!!!! And always praise her with lots of love and attention when she goes outside!!!! Luig was about 4 monthes when he got the hang of it!! And he's like clockwork. Another thing I did was to get super excited about going outside, and he too got excited!!!! So I tried to make it a fun thing!!!! 10 weeks is still too young to get it right away, but she will soon!!!! :p Good Luck!!!! |
Thankyou Miezzi. My other puppy was puppy pad trained, so it seemed much easier, because at least she pee'd on the pad rather than find any place to go. You are so right repetition is so important with these little gals. So one more questions. When you take him outside, once he as completed his business do you bring him inside, or do you let him continue to play after you reward him. Thanks again, Okotoks |
Maggie is 14 weeks old now. She is about 95% housebroken. I take her out around the clock. After she eats, sleeps, naps, plays, and anytime else we can squeeze in. Her eating schedule is down pat, so I know she poos after breakfast and after dinner. She sometimes sleeps all night (8:30-6:30), but when she can't make it all night, I get up and take her outside to PP. Then it's back to bed for the rest of the night. She will go to the door and sit there, thinking some genie will open it for her. She never barks or anything. Somebody had better be watching, OR THERE IS AN ACCIDENT. I always take her out on a leash, even though our property is fenced. This tells her it's not playtime, but potty time. Working great. |

Most of the time I bring him in to reward him and love on him and dote on him!!!! But when it was getting nice out, he would want to stay out and want to play or go of for a walk!!! But I would still make a big deal about him going peepee or poopoos outside like a good boy!!!!!! And I would jump up and down and go crazy!!! My neighbors probly thought I was nuts!!!! I would always give him a small treat when he did right. Then after he was getting the hang of it he didn't get as amny treats just for peepeeing!!!! N ow he has to do tricks for A treat!!!!!!!!! |

Tucker is 5 mths and doesn't "tell" me when he needs to go. We started puppy classes tonight and she is going to help me to teach him to ring a bell when he needs to go out. I hope it works! |

I have to watch out for the famous FAKE PP with Maggie. If the weather isn't perfect, she will squat for about a second and run back to the door. That is a FAKE PP for sure. |
