I might try sticking a pillow case in there that might work good. She has been laying on the pillow with my wife when then lay down and take a nap in the afternoon. Thanks for all the advice and I will keep everyone posted. Plus I should have some pictures up in the next couple of days. |
Sounds like you really are on the right track. And I agree Jasmine must think of the crate as a good place, some place safe and comfortable, so never use it as punishment. Do you put the crate close to your bed, where you can actually stick your fingers in to quiet her if she cries? If not, that might help, so you don't have to actually get out of bed every time. Putting things in there that smell like you or your wife is also a great idea. But patience is the key, don't feel overwhelmed...it shouldn't take but a few nights for her to understand...it's sleep time, not play time. Hi: I feel your pain:( although in reading some of the responses, I feel kind of lucky. Teddy was 8 weeks old when we brought him home. I only had a childs playpen he slept in and from the 1st night, he slept 11 hours. We could not believe it. He does not chew anything but HIS toys and our only problem with him is in potty training. He will be 8 months old on the 15th and we still have to watch him like a hawk or else he will go in the house. He can be out for hours with me and then come in and have an accident. Very frustrating. But he is getting better. As mentioned above, enjoy the puppy stage, the good and the bad because it seems like we just got Teddy and here he is almost 8 months old. But each stage is good. I also am trying to figure out how to post a pic. I am not very computer savy so the least little thing dealing with a computer is a challenge. |

I hope this doesn't sound too gross, but, when we first got Mugzy and had to crate him when we went to church, (he usually sleeps with us) it just so happened that I had a t-shirt that I had worn and really sweated in. I put it in the crate with him so he could smell me. That seemed to comfort him.:p |

I finally put her in our bed just so I could get some sleep and she was fine. I really don't want to start doing that, however with us getting no sleep it is starting to effect our jobs. Once you put her in your bed that's where she will want to be:rolleyes: I know that some start with them in their bed and don't have any problems so hopefully it'll work for you. I waited till mine were a bit older but I do remember those sleepless nights - not fun:( |
here is my experience. we kept muffie in the bathroom as well when she was a baby. my vet advised me not to b/c of the germs in the bathroom. he advised to crate her while we were gone. this is when i was working.... we crated her, of course i could not hear her cry while i was at work. at night, she would cry for about 45 LONG minutes like she was dieing. it was about two months and she would go to her crate when we command her to. now being three years old, always goes into the crate to sleep, rest and all is good. training babies is hard and long. it does take patients. but just like with our own babies....we let them cry themselves to sleep good luck to you and congrats on the baby |
I know some say that the bed is not a good idea, however it kind of seems like that is the only place where she will relax and not whine. During the day she is in the kitchen area, but since we are not home to here her whine is not as bad. I am not going to try this for 2 months I don't have that kind of patiences. I am not really sure what I am going to do at this point. |
Hey, if she sleeps well in bed with you then you do what ya gotta do:) The only reason I didn't let mine sleep in bed when they were that young was I didn't want any accidents on my down comforter:rolleyes: |
If we decide to go that route then I figured we would just get a waterproof cover to put over our mattress. That way if something happens then all we have to do is wash some blankets and not replace the mattress. However I would love for her to sleep in her own bed. I guess if that doesn't work then there is always plan B. |
Rusty sleeps in the crate right by my bed. He usually sleeps around 2am for some reason. But he'll hold in his peeing/pooing till around 8am which is great. When I hear his id tag shaking, he usually clings on the crate door as well to tell me, "Hey Dad, I gotta go... like now please!" :D He doesn't whine or cry when I put him in the crate. What I usually do is let him sleep on the couch for a little, maybe 10-15 mins into his sleep and then carry him into my room and into the crate which has a plushy bed in it. He usually is sooo tired that he won't be able to stand up and fall back to sleep. It has always worked for me so you can try that. |
We keep our dogs crated in our bedroom and put a blanket over the crate they are happy to be with us but they don't whine as they can't see us. Good luck with your little one! |
I am going to keep on trying for a little while longer. I guess our dog just wants to be right next to us at all times...LOL |

Is that the one that you heat the inner part in the microwave? If so, I think PuppyLovinNurse has that for her Chloe and swears by it:) |
Yeah you can heat it and then you put batteries in it. That way the puppy can feel a heart beat and be warm at the same time. I think for $20+ it might be worth trying. |
Goodnight Jasmine, go to sleep!!! Jasmine, Hope you sleep all night tonight...maybe if she plays real hard before bedtime she'll sleep better. Winston has slept in bed with us since he was 6 months old, before that he was crated, right up next to my side of the bed. Really it's not that unusual to get up with them once a night, they're so little...their bladders can only hold it so long...I think 4-5 hours is pretty darn good. But he's 3 years old now, and rarely do I get up thru the night with him, he sleeps like 8 hours a night...straight thru...She'll get there!!! |

She is doing better she will at least go in there now without any trouble. She whines for about 10 mins and then goes to sleep. She will then sleep about 4 hours and have to get up to go pee. I think I might try taking her for long walks before I put her to bed. Maybe that will wear her out a little. |
You're getting some great advise here. I love the Pet Pen Lola's mommy showed in her post, that's exactly what I was looking for...3 years ago...too late for me, but it sure might help you(if you don't already have something like that). And going for a walk before bed, as you suggested is a very good idea...but she's so young, be careful where you take her until she's had all her shots. But hey, 4 hours is getting better!!! Does she go right back to sleep then for another 4 hours? Maybe that's just wishful thinking...Keep up the good work, how's she doing with everything else, potty training, eating etc... |
We have a big long driveway and I walked her up and down that tonight we will see if that helps a little. After she sleeps for about 4 hours then she will go outside and go potty and then come back in and go back to sleep for about 1-1/2-2 hours. Then after that it is about 1 hour and she is ready to get up. Which is okay because that is about the time we get up to go to work. I think she is doing good with everything else. She eats and drinks plenty of water during the day. She now knows where her food and water is and she will get it on her own. She is also doing good at potty training. We take her out and she goes almost everytime. We are also getting to know when she has to go as well. We just make sure to give her ALOT of praise when she goes outside. She has had a few accidents in the house as well, but when she does she seems to hit the potty pad. This is our first pet and we didn't think it would be this much work. However it hasn't been that bad and it will only get better. Not to mention she is a blast to have around. I guess this is a good test to see if we ever want to have kids...LOL |
So how'd Jasmine do last night? I do hope it does get better with time. They are definitely worth the time & trouble. Once she gets it, it will be smooth sailing and they really are a fun little dog...enjoy!!! Sounds like she's doing everything else pretty good, of course they do go thru stages, and yes this may prepare you for having children, although I don't know anything about "skin kids" as I never had any, only "fur babies"...Gotta love 'em!!! |
Well I have a different veiw....(im a softie) I have drug my son's extra single matress into my living room floor and I sleep with my fur baby....I did it with my 2 year old also until she could get off and on the bed with help from a upside crate. Now she is a full time bed sleeper (still needs the crate tho) and he sleeps from 11-4 or 5 we go potty and back to sleep. No whining, no stress and both getting our sleep! Lucky my hubby works mid night so he is only alone for 1 hour a day. When we have to leave or go away in the evenings...I hire my daughters best friend to sit. Just like a baby lol I know it's probably worng but it's just how I do it. |
I think she is getting better. She only woke up once to go potty. So if it stays like that for a little while I can live with that. |
