Harlem will not pee and poop in the same place This is my first puppy and he is 2 months old. For some amazing reason, when he had to pee he automatically knew to pee on the pee pad w/o us showing or telling him how. I thought that was great! However, he will not poop on the pads. Once we let him out of the fenced in bathroom area to play, he will get to the carpet and poop instead of pooping on the pee pad. Once he does this, we tell him NO and put him on the pad-but of course, it's too late since he has already pooped. My friend who also has a dog (non-yorkie) told me that dogs will not pee and poop in the same area. Is that true? Since then, my fiance takes him outside and he poops there. I, however, don't really want him outside-i want him to be trained to use pee pads so that in the future we can leave him home and not worry about rushing home to take him out. Can anyone help? |
wow i was just gonna post the same thing. we are going through the same thing. |
My female pup Sophie is the same way. She does not pee and poop in the same places. Therefore to save my carpet I have 2 pads down at all times on opposite ends of my livingroom. Since then she pees on one then poops on the other. Makes life a whole lot easier. |
2 different pads that's a great idea but how did you get your puppy to pee on one and then go to the other to poop? I need help or direction on that part. |
I hate we have the same problem but maybe we can get some help. I desperately need! |
Hi girls! My Maltese is the exact same way. I don't have to lay out two pads though. She does her thing, turns/circles around (still in the pad area) and does her other thing. You should keep a close eye on him when he uses the pad. You're doing the right thing (picking him up and taking him to the correct spot if he has a accident). Practice makes perfect and patience is the key! |
I definitely feel your pain. Tucker pretty reliably uses the pee pad to urinate when he's in his X-pen but he just let's the poop land where it will. Then, once we're downstairs and there is carpeting it's a free-for-all, he's peeing and pooping everywhere willy nilly even after being shown where the pee pads are and being corrected mid-stream. Ugh! |
