My Katie-Choo is tearing up her puppy pads My Katie-Choo is tearing up her puppy pads. Does anyone know why she is doing this? She usually does it when no one is around and I am not there to scold her and to tell her to stop. Thanks for your help. John |
bella did the same thing....i cant help...but i am sure sometime will!!! good luck |
actually you could get this puppy pad holder...it hold them down and i think makes it harder to tear up...... |
Holly hadn't done that until about three days ago. I just taped it down while I get one of those holders. |
thanks for the advice, i think i'll try taping it down |
Here is my best advice, I went through the same thing with my 6 month old. If we would put a new one down and then leave, our yorkie was all about tearing it to shreds! Even though he pretty much has the pad training down, except for an every once in awhile accident, we still make him pee on the pad atleast twice if it is new before we leave, he is less likely to tear it up if it has pee on it! Hope the same works for you!! |
thanks for the advice vinnie's mom, i'll be sure to try that out |

so i taped the ends of the pee pads but she is still able to somehow pry the pads loose from the tape. and she doesn't just rip them, she mutilates the pads until the whole family room is filled with cotton shreds everywhere.:( |
2 Attachment(s) Maybe you could use something else. Perhaps that pad holder. I know there is also a indoor potty thingamajiggy. I don't know what it's called but here's a pic. |
Try reusable pee pads. My babies also did that, so i got the reusable pee pads and that worked for me and when i am not home they are crated, so no more cotton shreds.:D |

Anyways, I bought the washable pee pads and Cali and I get along sooooooooooo much better! :D After a couple of unsuccessful tries of tearing up the pads, she gave up, they stay in place, she pees and poops on them, and life is good. |
Max is doing the same thing. When he feels we're ignoring him he tears up his wee wee pads. Do you think Bitter Apple could help? Maybe if they taste that on the pad they will leave them alone?? |
morgan tore her's up too when i had them in there when she was a puppy. So i bought washable ones and solved that problem. I also tried the pee pad holder but it didn't work. she was still able to tear up the pad from the middle out. go figure LOL i have morgan trained to go outside now so we don't have that problem anymore. Its much easier. good luck |

still no luck. i've tried taping the pads down, leaving a couple of pee stains before leaving, buying her more toys to keep her occupied. blah :idontknow |
My 5 month old puppy Valentino is doing this as well. And he only seems to do this when I am not around ( ie - sleeping, at work). It is very troublesome! I dont know what to do  Today I tried putting some Bitter Apple on the edges of the pads.. We will see what happens when I get home today. |
Petsmart sells little frames for $5 - there are 4 metal rod, at each corner there is an apparatus that you "poke" the peepad corner into - works great. |
I purchased the "Wiz Dog" for my fur baby as she also enjoyed tearing up the potty pads/newspapers.....she has one in her playpen in the kitchen and another one in the livingroom....she uses the one in her playpen while she is in there but I'm still trying to get her to use the one in the living room or let me know that she needs to go outdoors. She has been doing great at going outdoors when I take her out, but I have to be extremely careful due to hawks and other predator birds.... It can get a bit frustrating when you stand there with her telling her to potty and as soon as you let her go to play, she decides she needs to relieve herself on the carpet....ugggggggggg :( |
2 Attachment(s) I bought puppy pads when I first got Cookie and he always tore them up. Then I tried the bed pads used in hospitals. I get 18 of them for $5.27. He did not tear these up and I wondered why. I asked that question at a pet supply store and they told me if I knew that all puppy pads are sprayed with a light synthetic urine smell and a lot of dogs tear them up...I don't know how true this is but for us it seemed to work. I just made 2 pee pads that are washable and they are adorable! Cookie finally used it today all day long and even my Maltese has been using hers. I plan to look for more affordable fabric to sell a few.The top is quilted printed fabric and the bottom is vinyl, I sew the edge with a trim so it looks very professional. You can't see the pee stains because the print has green, yellow and has baby monkeys, lions, elephants, hippos and giraffes.I want to make at least 10 more so I don't have to keep buying the disposable type!I will post pictures soon. I'm going to throw them in the washer and dryer at least 2-3 times before I sell them. Genie Cookie Lola Angel |
This is too funny. The five puppies in the xpen when I leave--must have 10-20 toys and 1 pee-pee pad that is 1000 pieces when I come home. Seems that when I let them out of the xpen they run for the other pee-pads in the house and go to the bathroom or out the doggie door to they yard to do their business. maybe they don't want the pee pads in their territory???? |
