2 Attachment(s) What I did was attach the leash in the house, drop it & coax the girls from across the room with excitement. They came running. Next I would walk into the bedroom acting foolish. They would follow me in there because of the tone of my voice. Then I would praise & say good girl, pick up the leash & say, Lets go bye bye. I would then walk around inside & then head for the door, they just kept a walking. I bought their first harness from Amber lv, which is more like a shirt. They love it. They know when I get them out, their ready for their walks. |
Be sure to use a harness and not a collar to protect his little neck. Then try to make walking fun. Walk places he wants to go. Maybe it's "outside." Or walk over to his favorite toy. Or walk next door to visit a neighbor dog. The goal is to get him to walk on a loose leash. The tough part is getting them to stop pulling, but it's more important to get them comfortable on a leash before you worry about that. Eddie is Mr. Independent, but I've walked him on a leash his entire life, and he doesn't mind at all. Good luck. |
My London is JUST like yours!! I swear! I posted a thread about it before. She's already 7 months old and does NOT walk on a leash! As soon as I put it on her she will sit and just look at me and not budge but if she doesn't have a leash on she will walk on her own. IDK what to do, nothing works, treat nada. |

when my bella does decide to walk she pulls me like crazy.....is there a way to make that stop??? |
I just found a training lead which doesn't go around their neck like a collar. It rests on the back of the neck, but the front rests on the chest. It took me and 3 pet store workers a while to figure out how to put it on, but I like it and so does Max. It's a harness type gizmo and made by Four Paws. You can pull sideways on the leash which supposedly will teach the dog to walk alongside of you. Actually Max is walking much better now. It takes time, consistency and lot of patience. I also give him his way every so often so that he can smell around on his own, especially at the park. I met a couple at the park yesterday who used to breed dogs. They were telling me not to expect Max to be really trained until at least a year and 1/2. A lot of Yorkies just have too much energy to expect them to pay attention before then. They were telling me that mastering the walk really shows the dog who is in charge. I liked their attitude. They were telling me to always do it gently, and with love, but show my inner strength. |
thanks for the info!!! i will try pulling sideways! :) |
Try putting the leash on and leaving it on for a while. Let him have the run of the house. Take it off and do the same again later. The next time, put it on and keep it in your hand. Start walking. Call the dog. Then just keep walking. Ps. This is how I taught my little Cash and he is doing very well on a leash now. |
