Online Training Program Hi Everyone, Just read about this training program (Dean Rankin) in which you can train your yorkie in just 15 min a day.....has anyone used it, what kind of results did you get....or can anyone give me a good training booklet that I can purchase for my lil baby. Thanking you for all your help, Eileen (SweetPea) and "Izzie" |
Bell Training I've got Bell Training instructions that some prison inmates devised while they train dogs. Kinda like the Animal Planet show called "Cell Dogs"....these shelter-dogs live w/ prison inmates for 10 weeks and go through intensive obedience training....even bell training, where the dog will ring a bell to tell you he needs to go outside to use the bathroom. I adopted a maltese from the "DeathRowDog" program this past Tuesday. I have the instructions and if you are interested, send me your email. By the way, the inmates guarantee these instructions, saying there's never been a dog they have not been able to bell train. Good luck! |
I personally haven't tried it, but some time ago there were other YTers who said they didn't think much of Dean Rankin. |
I haven't tried the Dean Rankin because the reviews that I read. Gordon goes to Petsmart training and he is doing well. But I am the one that needs the training , so I can then train him. I searched and read about Tamar Geller and then ordered her book, " The Loved Dog" at amazon. I have read about half the book, and I like the way she explains about the wolves and a dog way of thinking. I also did a search on the internet and found a site that has a few video's of her training. One of them is the command " come " ......so today I worked with him with her training style. For some reason he isn't getting that command when they try at Petsmart and me using it at home. She teaches using their names first, and then when they come to you, then you use the word " come". She uses nothing but postive and treats. I read today that she has a DVD that is coming out in June, and I plan to get it. I like her trainning methods so far, and it isn't just that it is a postive method of trainning, it just showed me more that I can reward him for, that he does on his own. Such as when he first gets up in the morning.......he does a stretch .......so now I reward him when he stretches and say.......stretch. He does it now on command. The trainer at Petsmart told me not to repeat a command.....but Tamar does just the opposite , such as sit.....Gordon would sit but as soon as I gave him a treat....he got up. I tried Tamar method .......while he is sitting, I constantly say sit and keep giving him treats. I did it for two days......then added a the release word....ok. Now he sits and doesn't move until I give him the release. Same as the command down. I'm going to continue Gordon with Petsmart but I am also going to add some of Tamar's methods. |
