Coco's newest tricks COCO LEARNED TO SIT, LAYDOWN AND HIGH 5. I am so excited. She is so cute when she does it. I took me like 30 minutes initially to be really consistent and now she does it. She doesn't run away when I say sit. She actually sits, and then I continue with Coco Down, and she lays down. When I tell her high 5, she slaps her paw into my hand. She is the cutest puppy ever. She is just learning standing/walking on her hind legs. Now if she could only learn where her puppy pad is and not go on my carpet  |
Lol! It's amazing how stubborn they are..."I'll be cute for you, but I'm gonna go whereever the heck I feel like it! So there!" I swear that's what my dog thinks! |
They are little stubborn buggers. If they do one thing on command, they will do 2 things wrong just to make it known that they are the boss of you...haha |
It is like they think they are being punished when you try to teach them tricks. |
I wish I could teach Bentley! All he does is look for the treats and whenI try to push his butt down to teach him to sit he runs away! Then I had my treats laying on the side of me and the lil sucker snuck over, got half a treat and layed on his bed with it! If you guys could offer any hints of how you successfully trained your yorkie to do tricks that would be great! |
Nobody was more misguided than poor Coco and myself. Everytime I would say "sit" she would run away like I just cussed at her. So I started to change my voice fluctuations from command to playful and loving. I gave her a new treat, watermelon. She LOVED it. But I only gave her a couple of pieces. Then I would say sit. She would step back but still eye the watermelon. I helped her maybe a total of 12 times (gently pushed her rear down). Once I pushed her rear down, I would praise her so much and give her a bigger piece of watermelon. After a while she got it on her own. Then I started with another new treat, apples. That's how I taught her to lay down. The hi-5 was the surprise because she was doing it and I just named it. Now she stands on her hind legs too. I want to teach her to walk on her hind legs. It hink that will be easier than potty training  |

One thing I taught Reagan however is to "leave it". Once I tell her leave it she won't touch it untill I say to "get it". You may be able to try teaching him this then telling him to leave the treats you sit down beside you then he may not be so quick to steal them. I taught Reagan this one by simply putting a treat down and telling her leave it and pushing her away each time she would go after it and good girl when she didn't. The key is to not let them get it until you say to. A friend of mine even says that she never gave her dog the treat that she told the dog to leave, at least when she first started training. She would give her a totally different one. I don't know if that works better or not though. Anyway don't give up hope just keep trying and keep your patience. I was told that if I'm not in a good mood don't work with the dog. |
All these babies sound so smart! Coco is going to be a star! That is so great that the training is working so well. Hefner is doing better than Chai and Westie, Billie, is showing all up! She loves to eat so she is the most motivated I think. My problem is the fact that I have 4 and the gorup lessons are not as productive as the one on one which I have trouble finding the time to do, but, now that summer is almost her, my shcedule will loosen up a bit hopefully and I can do better. Thanks for the inspiration! |
