how to eliminate the crazy barking at walk times? Hi, My two Yorkies go out every day for walks, but you'd think they never went. Once the leads are out, it's mayhem, it drives my husband up the wall. and I don't like it much either. I have been trying to train them by, getting ready to go out, if any barking goes on, I drop the leads or take them back off, and walk away, i then repeat this, until they get the message that i want them to keep quiet. it works but it takes loads of attempts to get out. is there a better way? so we can get out quicker, no patience i'm afraid. |
Try getting yourself ready first, shoes, coat etc etc. Then all you have to do then is get the leads on. I usually do this first with mine and then it doesnt take as long to get outside. Dont know if you do this already;) Nice to hear from a fellow Brit. I'm an ex-pat living in Canada, from Newcaste originally:) |
Thanks for the advice but the chaos starts as soon as i put my shoes on, i then get my coat then into the cupboard for the leads. sometimes i only have to get up out of my seat and they start. How are you liking Canada? Had a chance to get posted there a few years ago (husband in army). I can't remember where exactly, all i remember was that it was in the middle of nowhere, miles from anything, extreme cold in the winter and extreme heat in the summer, i got my hubby to turn it down, as i cant stand either. really regretting that now, especially as we would like to emigrate when he leaves the army. |
Do they always bark when you get up even though your not going for a walk? Maybe one starts the other off. Dont know if separating them while you put their leashes on would help!! We love it here in Canada. We were over in the UK last year. Haven't been back in 24 years. I could not live their now. Too expensive. Too many people and the traffice wow. It must have been out in Pettawaw in Alberta there is a huge Army base there and yes its out in the middle of nowhere. Our son is in the Army, but based in New Brunswick. Nice place, near a big town. Hes serving in Afghanistan right now. If you want my e-mail addy just let me know, then we can corresponded on other things besides Yorkies. ;) |
oh my ... my toy poodle does this everytime she sees me grab the leash...i don't know how to get her to stop...it gets annoying... |
hi banjo, no they don't bark at just any time of the day if i make a move, they usually know, but don't ask me how. one is worse than the other, little willis is the yapper, although he has been a bit better lately, so i am getting something right.can't control himself, and holly is a feet patterer, they go ten to the dozen, she wines too. once we get out willis always wants to tug his lead, but i don't let him. |
