She was litter box trained, and just STOPPED using it Our yorkiepoo is only 4 pounds - and when she was a puppy, she was less than a pound, so our vet recommended we "puppy pad" train her (in a litter box) so she could have all the access she needed to potty (since she had such a little bladder). Well... this worked GREAT for about a year and a half, and then, POOF, she stopped pooping in it. She still pees in it downstairs, but will not use her pad at all upstairs. In the past, she would only poop out of her "box" (where her puppy pad was) about once a month, for some unknown reason, and when we would have company over, she would poop in front of them (we think she was trying to give them a 'gift') So here's our problem: We mind that she stopped pooping in the box, but our real concern is when we have children. We're in our late twenties, and would like to get a handle on this before we start trying. Has anyone else had this problem? I don't know what we're supposed to do now... THANKS! Sara |
Hi Sara. Hi Sara. I have a 4 lb. Morkie (Maltes/Yorkie Mix) She too is litter box trained. She's a little over a year now. What I notice is that she does not like her pad to be wet. If the pad is peed on more then say two or three times she will not use it again. You may want to try changing it more often. This could be a possiblility. Believe me Tia's pad is not by any means dirty - she just does not like it when it's used more than two or three times. If we don't change it she'll poop somewhere else. Also, we remove the poop off her pad every time she goes or again she won't go in again. Hope this helps. Elaine |
change pad? Thanks for the advice. I wish that was the problem. We have gone as far as changing her pad after only ONE use, but it didn't work. We also remove any "number 2" we see in the box as soon as she goes. Neither of these things seem to be the problem. She uses the one downstairs just fine, but will NOT have anything to do with the one upstairs anymore... |
Pixie has been having way to many accidents so I am trying to limit her access and keep an eye on her more. Also, I have gone back to rewarding her when she uses the pad. |
Just a thought...... Try switching the boxes, put the one upstairs downstairs and vice versa. ya never know, these guys are sometimes funny about things. It might be worth a try. Hope you find a solution soon! |
