I need help! I need your wisdom on how to make Lola stop crying all night so that I can get some much needed sleep! Any words of wisdom for me?! Also, may I ask what a good treat is so that I can start rewarding Lola for going potty in the right place? |
the toy I'm getting for my puppy is called the puppy kong. I hear great things about it. The KONG allows you to put numerous food treats in them so your puppy can play along with it while trying to get whatever treat you put into it. Some treats that yorkies like: Peanut butter is popular apple slices/sauce liver snaps mini carrots cheese bits |
Try putting an old shirt of yours in her crate, make sure she is warm enough too. Good luck! |
We had our little girl in bed with us for the first couple of months and we all slept much better, but when she got bigger and started whimpering everytime we moved, we had to put her in her crate next to our bed. I found out that the pad we had in there wasn't warm enough because she would sort of make sounds throughout the night. But when I put a feather pillow in her crate, which kind of fluffs up around her, she slept like a rock and didn't make a peep. Anyway, you might try that and also, when we first had to put our baby in a crate, the first couple of nights I gave her some Rescue Remedy drops which pretty much knocked her out all night and after that, she just stopped whining to get out. |
Thank you all so much! I will make sure that she is warm. Do you remember how long your puppies cried before they started sleeping through the night? |
I have crate trained many pups and each one is slightly different and yet the same. I agree w/ all here, make sure pup is warm enough. For my current puppy I purchased this thing you put in the microwave and then in the crate (not too hot, just right). I also put in a teeshirt that I had worn (yummy!). I started with the crate in my downstairs bathroom and he would cry for like 1/2hr daily. Then I decided to put the crate next to my bed and he never made a peep. He is also crated during the day when I am at work. I took off when I first got him and slowly started getting him used to the crate. I would take a Kong toy and put yummy stuff in it, tell him to go in his "house" and put him in the crate for short 10min intervals and then each day increase that time. Last night I had the crate open and I was on the computer and I was looking for Bently and for the first time ever he had crawled into his crate on his own and was sleeping?!! When you have the crate next to your bed (if you do) when he/she whines..tap the crate and say quiet..don't baby him/her (ie: its ok...its ok..)..just a firm Quiet. Sometimes that works. |
Thank you, biewerlover! What do you recommend putting inside the Kong? I have one, but I'm not sure what to put inside. I currently have her playpen outside of my bedroom door, so that she can see me, but maybe I should move it in my bedroom. I'll try that tonight! She cries for about 30 minutes every two hours, and it's so exhausting. She's been doing this for 10 nights, and I just don't think that's normal?! |
Awww good luck with crying baby... I started with crate traning and I failed so no advise from me... I live in an apartment so I couldn't let her cry middle of the night so I start to sleep with her couple of month ago. Luckly she hasn't had any accident on the bed!!! Good luck!!! |

:) Hi good luck with your crying baby Lola.....we,ve a bit bigger baby called Lola too! She's 6months old. I was lucky and did'nt have that problem....but one thing i can say is this puppy stage goes in a flash! I thought never ending puddles would go on and on .......but we've past that stage and it seems so long ago now, so bear with her! :animal36 |
Percy would cry and cry and cry at night. It was heartbreaking. We gave him a small blanket that we had slept with one night, and turned a radio on in "his" room. I think the combo of something that smelt like us, and the noise from the radio (so he didn't feel alone) helped cure him of his crying. For training treats, we Nature's Recipe Training Treats. You can only get them at Petsmart, but they are chewy and really tiny. Two fit on a penny. Even my Picky little guy loves them. |
