He's eating the litter :s I just got my yorkie(named Elmo) a couple days ago, and im trying to train him to go to the bathroom in the house, in a litter box with purina second nature dog litter. He's having some trouble with the litter though.Whenever I see him sniffing or getting ancy to go, i put him in the box.Only once he's in, he either tries to eat the litter pellets or he just lays down in it like a bed  I really need to get him trained for in the house because our lawn gets too wet and cold for him to go on(he plain refuses to go on it) :( anyone have suggestions? |
Did you try puppy pads? |
Well I have those currentally, haven't yet gotten him to use them. We have him in our living room with both a pee pad and the box available but he doesn't seem to catch on yet... Maybe if we move him to the kitchen with just a pee pad. BTW: he's 11 months i believe |
Cash eats the litter also. I try spray the bitter spray on it except the pellets just soak it up and disintergrate so i got fed up and put the pee pad in the litter box and that works. |
eating litter I usw folded unprinted newspaper in a litter pan and Max used it within minutes of coming home to us. In 3 weeks, he has only missed a few times. I did nothing to train him to it. |
patience... Crystal did the same thing for about 2 wks. If your puppy is like her, he will eventually get bored with it and go on about his business. We decided, for some of the same reasons as you, that we would litter train long before we got her. We made a commitment to ourselves and her, stuck to it and couldn't be more tickled with the results. IMO, if you give him time he'll get bored with it and start doing what he's supposed to. Best of luck. |
If your living room is carpeted I would move him to the kitchen. Mine are still confined to the kitchen except when I can supervise them. I use pee pads and put them in a shallow under the bed storage container. |
i would train him to go outside |
