woe is mommy (another housebreaking issue)
 
My sweet love of my life, Raja, is 15 months old and up until last month he was "housebroken". I use the term loosely because he was good about going outside but lately it's been an all out poo&pee fest inside. (never used wee pads so he should not think this is OK)

I'm apprehensive about putting him on a schedule (of feeding) because it is sooo hard to get him to eat in the first place! I think if I didn't leave it out 24/7 he would never eat. (I've tried every food under the sun and the only think he'll touch is Royal Canin Yorkshire.)

Today we tried a diaper (while in the house) and he went #1 twice outside (yay!) but only a little... like marking but not emptying his bladder. The diaper went back on once inside and about 10 minutes later I picked him up... only to have the liquid contents of that diaper to spill all over me.

I don't understand why he barely goes outside (as if to say "there mom, I did it, now give me a treat!") but as soon as he's back in the house he thinks it's potty time. Crating him would break my heart... is there any other way? Or do I need to discipline myself and just lock him up?

I think I'd start by seeing what has changed outside that may have him not wanting to potty out there. Is he not getting enough time or are there new dogs in the neighborhood? Just look and listen in the yard - see if you notice anything that might cause him to not want to go out there.

When you do go out follow the pattern you had set previously. Go to one area and no playing or talking just potty time.

Sometimes just a reminder of potty training will get him back on track.

Crating is a good thing in my opinion. Cozy even now at 1 year old (Born April Fool's Day) still gets crated when no one is home. She does not mind her crate and will go to sleep in it if she is tired. Don't see the crate as a way of punishing your baby but as a tool to encourage good behavior. Also could he have a bladder infection. My golden got one and only peed in the house once but that was enough for both me and him to go to the vet.

Now that the weather is getting nicer out, maybe let your pup be outside more? Either on a deck, patio or tied up? My guy loves the outside and the sun, and I really think that had a lot to do with his finalizing his potty training.

It's a bit embarrassing to say this, but I am at his beck and call. I let him out whenever, to his hearts content. We're lucky to have a huge fenced in yard & he's lucky my work schedule allows me to be around a lot. :animal-pa

I know it's definitely a positive thing, I've just gotten into a bad habit of over spoiling him with free-reign of the entire house. Together we're weening ourselves into crate training & have started with him sleeping in there at night. (yes, he used to sleep in bed or next to it... so spoiled!) :rolleyes:

I read that Royal Canin cat food was tainted with the poison too. I'm not sure if the dog food was affected.

:eek: oh my god! I thought Royal Canin was too expensive to be effected! Granted it was only a batch of cat food sold by veterinarians, but this really makes me angry. Menu Foods has a blatant monopoly on the pet food industry and if one thing goes wrong with them, pretty much every food is effected.

Not to mention the company knew about pets dying at least an entire month before issuing the first recall - they don't care about our pets, only money.
