Ferdinand used to hate driving in the car as well. I started giving him Bach's Rescue Remedy which helped a lot. Then, when he wasn't crying, I'd say "good boy!" and give him a treat. So he would get a couple treats per trip. I also have to have the windows cracked. One problem was when I first got him, every car ride was to the vet, which is a scary place. I started taking short drives to some place he liked so he didn't associate the car with the vet. Good luck! |

Our little girl loooooves riding in the car and I think it's because our first trips were all short ones to the pet store just about every day where she can get out of her carrier and see other dogs and visit with people and smell all the good food and treats. The trip is about 5 minutes and since we ended up at a place she absolutely loves to go, she is nutty about going in the car. The minute we start putting on our shoes and jackets, she starts jumping and racing around, races to her carrier and then back to us to signal us not to forget about taking her. Not even going to the vet once in a while has dampened her enthusiasm about going for rides. |
