Ugh! We need help! Hi everyone! We purchased our first teacup yorkie at the end of January. We have had so many problems training her to go outside. We feed her in the morning around 8am and again around 6-7pm. She doesn't seem to have a schedule for pooping and she pees all the time. We have a training pad down in a corner that she does use, when it't convenient for her. We change them 2-3 times a day. But, she knows it's there, and chooses not to use it. She pees in her crate, and she poops too. The gross part is she eats it. As soon as we smell it, we go to clean it up and it's not there, but there are brown marks on the floor/training pad etc. How can we stop this! We are so frustrated! We take her outside about 10 minutes after she eats and leave her there for about 15. But it seems that as soon as we bring her inside, she craps/pees. Any help would be greatly appreciated! |
http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=68808 Welcome to YT - Here is a thread that a long time member posted the other day on the subject of poo eatting! How old is your tiny? Crate training is important - there are many books that can help. You can also find a puppy class in your area or just search this site for tips on crate training...or just about anything for that matter! |
She is almost 5 months. I will search for that thread. Thank you! |
She's about the same age as ours then! What's her name - ya gotta post pics too! We love looking at others babies :p Another good tip is to watch her like a hawk. You can even tether her to you and when you see her sniffing and walking in circles you can lead her to the pee pad or take her outside. Just remember to never yell at her if she makes a mess. Takes persistance but it can be done! |
Her name is Mia. She was born on November 18th. When was your yorkie born? We try to hold her for a while becuase she won't go to the bathroom on us, and when we take her outside, she plays dumb. But it almost never fails, the minute she comes in, she goes... |
Calliope was born on November 21st. Our trainer told us to take them out and if they don't go, bring them in, then take them right back out...repeat until they do go. Sounded like a lot of work to me though! Crate training is the best. Luckily our breeders dogs had Calliope pee pad trained when we brought her home! :) |
Good advice--- Milo was born on Nov 8-----I've had him a month and he is nearly whoops free now. Yesterday he pooped in the house and when I saw it he actually got remorseful! So at least I now know he knows he should be doing it all outside. I never make a fuss over his whoopsies I just quietly clean them up. |
Saw a funny one time that said: How to house train your dog... When you see that your dog has made a mess, roll up a newspaper, find your dog and then whomp YOURSELF on the head and repeat...I'm a bad owner for not watching my dog! I'm a bad owner for not watching my dog! I'm a bad owner for not watching my dog! LOL |
If she is pottying in her crate then you could try a different crate. If that doesn't work, you may as well give up on that method and try something different. Does she sleep in the crate at night. If so then when you get up, has she already pottied? If so then maybe you need to get her up during the night, and stop her feed earlier in the night. Mine usually eat their last food at around 5, I put them to bed at 10, but they fall asleep ariound 9 and sleep till 7:30. This has been their schedule since they were 9 weeks old. When you take her out, are you walking her or just standing. Walking stimulates the urge to potty, plus it will tire her so she will rest, then when she gets up to play, take her out again. Take her out after every nap. If your breeder did not train properly that could be a problem. Don't change pee pads so often, leave the pee on it, pick up the poop. DO NOT allow her to run unsupervised. When you cannot watch her she should be confined to an x pen or a laundry area, bathroom etc. with a bed and water and a pee pad. One breeder wrote that she thinks the potty area should be divided off from the play area, so they actually have to go through a doorway to potty. Here is a link to that site, scroll down to where it says Tips on paper training http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/whelpingphotos7.htm PS You do not have a teacup yorkie, you have a small yorkie. |
