Ever OK to fight? As I was walking Eddie and Jack to the car, unleashed because we live on a street with little traffic and they generally mind, a poorly cared for neighbor chihuahua came up and started harassing Eddie and Jack. He's always unattended, and he typically tries to mount my dogs. This time, Eddie proceeded to thrash him. Well, as much of a thrashing as a 9-pound Yorkie can deliver to an 11-pound chihuahua. The good news is, the chi ran home. The bad news is, I didn't know how to react. It took me a full year to get Eddie to stop beating up Jack. I know I can't encourage him to fight, but dang, I don't want him to roll over in a situation like that either. I tried to do nothing, but I could tell by the look on his face that he knew he wasn't in trouble. He may have even sensed I was proud of him. How should a responsible pet owner react? |
Eddie knew he was protecting his honor and I think he knows the difference between fighting Jack and the neighbors dog, you don't want him to be a coward, so I don't think he did anything wrong, he didn't start it but he finished it...Maybe the moose is next......:D All joking aside, if he doesn't start jumping or trying to fight with Jack, I think you did the right thing be a proud daddy....your kid stood up for himself....:) |
Well i think Eddie did a great job!!:D ...The good thing is that nothing really bad happen..The bad thing is that hopefully he doesnt think its okay to do it all the time.. |
Thanks for the input. I think it's something I'm going to have to discourage. But I can secretly take pride in it this time. :) |
I agree with "Peanut" . Yorkies are pretty smart and he may know that it was OK this one time. |
if the Chi comes back for round 2 as an owner I'd be prepared. Step in immediately when you see the Chi coming - don't even let him close to your dogs. Give the Chi the famous Cesar "shhhhtt" and as much energy as you can send his way - that way your dogs and the Chi understand the only one in charge is YOU! Let it be known that they will be no humping, no fighting, no taking charge - only you have that power. |
