Do you use a coupler to walk more than one? HELP us! I got this cool coupler from Chattiesmom that I'd love to use to take two at a time for walks and to the park etc. BUT... well...WE just can't figure this out!!. How can I train them to walk with this? Chloe just goes and walks like it's nothing, she wants to go! but for some reason it scares Tink if it tugs on her, she doesn't want Chloe there and taking her for a walk I guess! She will immediately walk backwards, go behind my legs and sit down, Chloe keeps tugging wanting to go so THEN Tink rolls over on her back and Chloe drags her!  :D I had to rescue the poor baby! Not to mention them going in opposite directions, wrapping around my legs, I almost step on someone... Oh lord it was the saddest and funniest thing I had witnessed the 3 of us ever trying to do! We were a serious mess. Do any of you use couplers and take more than one? HELP! |
May I chuckle? Even belly-laugh?:D :D :D Time and patience. Have both Tink and Chloe been trained to walk nicely or to "heel"? If not then the place to start is by teaching each dog to walk nicely as individuals then when you walk them with the Take2 you simply give them the "walk nice" or heel command and have them walk nicely by your side.... Once they get that down pat then you can allow them some freedom to explore and Tink should be accustomed to the coupler by then and be able to cope with a little tug or twol. It is really impressive to have two walking tandem. I used to do that offline with my two Irish Setters Mandy and Josh -- Mandy was normal sized at about 40 pounds, but Josh was another story. He was 100+ pounds of lean dog flesh -- he was HUGE and to have them "heeling" offline at my side was a good feeling. good luck |
I need to get a coupler I walk mine on 2 seperate leashes and its kind of a pain in the neck. |
Mine aren't that great of walkers to begin with but I use a coupler when I'm walking all three together for my own sanity, lol. the first 5 minutes are usually crazy, but then they get in the groove and play "let's pull momma as hard as we can", LOL <3 Good luck! |
I purchased one from Chattiesmom but haven't used it yet. I am still getting Pixie use to walking on a leash. Hopefully as we get out more she will get use to it and I can use the coupler as I have 3 dogs and it is pretty hard to walk all 3. |
OMG, I have to laugh - sounds exactly like my 2 clowns! Hoku LOVES to walk but Kalani stops every so many feet and pulls her up short. I think eventually Kalani will catch on but until then I keep them on separate leashes and hold them short so they actually are walking next to each other:) |
I need a coupler that gives them some more room instead of keeping them so close to each other Bentley is getting man handled by Zoey right now. I give him more leash than her because she drags him sometimes. Well chokes him. Once we get going it is ok. But I want them to have more "explore" length. Any ideas? |
I tried walking Cali and Pixie on the coupler and Pixie freaked and just about killed herself trying to get away from it. So I am going to have to get her more use to walking on a leash first. I took all 3 for a walk and Cali wanted to keep going farther, Pixie wanted to go back and Maya wanted to be carried. |

I've never tried a coupler...maybe I should look into one. Jaden and Jewelina walk on seperate leashes but they walk well, I guess from their handling classes as puppies. They both walk right beside me, never in front. I imagine a coupler would make life so much easier! I looke ridiculous with these two huge retractable leads in my hands! How's the coupler working for you now Jodi? |
I think the coupler is hard for some dogs to get used to, but once they master it, it really is quite nice. I switch it up. I'f I'm going for a leisurely walk, no time frame, where I want them to stop and smell the flowers and I'm allowing the guys to lift their lets on everything in sight, then I take them on seperate leashes, they are trained to walk at my heel unless I release them (command) to go. The coupler I use in the morning walks before work because I am on more of a time schedule and then I throw in my Golden as well. Its a sight. My golden is on a leash tied to my belt, she is trained to heel and is awesome at it, then I put the little ones on the coupler and off we go at a good clip. It took awhile for them to get used to it as Cooper (being older) was pulling, and Bentley the yonger lagging behind, eventually with a little short practice runs they got it down. Every now and again, someone is pulling more then I'd like so I stop (in my tracks), they look at me and we regroup...I agree with another poster to make sure they can walk nice on seperate leashes and then gradually try and introduce the coupler and let both dogs know its ok. I try to also make sure that no one is in the front that both dogs are at equal length. good Luck :) Kathy |

This link doesn't work for me and I am desperately wanting a longer distanced coupler if possible. Can you resend me the link perhaps? I wonder why it's not pulling up?? |
